iv,e only driven one 8v mk2 but it was nowhere near as fast as my 16v. the 16v just loves to rev and pulls very well its loads of fun to drive and always makes me smile

as diamond hell said, buy on body condition. The engine you can upgrade and swap with a healthy unit, but the body cant be repaired or swapped with such ease.

Sounds like the 16v is the one to save for.

That's sound advice about getting one with good clean bodywork, Mike. I've dealt with the dreaded tin worm before (from the dreaded ford capri), and I reckon prevention is better than cure.

So Martz, whats the bodywork like on this 8v you've got? Have you got any pictures?

I've always fancied a really nice valver, but with the 2.0 litre upgrade and a taller gearbox and leather interior. Lot less hassle than the G60.

does the gearbox on the golf g60 have weird ratios like the corrado? 1 and 2 are really short and 3,4,5, are really long on mine

I have not really given it much notice so I could not tell you. 1st and 2nd do tend to run out fairly quickly now you mention it, but I can really feel the torque when it's in 3rd, and at speed in 4th.
