Can I run both 235 and 225?
« on: 16 January 2024, 09:52 »
So currently I've got 2 P Zero's and 2 Sumitomo (never heard of them) on my car. My plan is to eventually upgrade to 235's all around however right now I'm more concerned with just removing the budget tyres and letting the P Zero's finish off their tread as they've still got 4.5-5mm left on them.

Can I run 225's and 235's at the same time? I think I know the answer already but if I go ahead should I put the new ones to the rear and run out the fronts?

As long as the pair of the same size are fitted to the same axle your ok.

ie 2 x 225 on the front
    2 x 235 on the rear

I am doing this, I had 225 35 19 Pirelli allround, I purchased 2x new 235 Goodyear which I fitted to the rear.
The Pirelli originally fitted to the rear still had 7mm of tread so I have put them on the front to hopefully get a little use out of them?
(Like getting your moneys worth?...Etc.... :) )

This tyre combo was fitted the day before a service and Mot at a reputable VW main delaer, the car passed the Mot with no comment made on the tyres.

As stated above fine as long as the tyre size match on the same axle.

Thanks both, I figured this would be the case. It's not the ideal solution but it seems wasteful to throw away 2 Pirelli's that have plenty of life left in them although I have a real issue with budget tyres on performance cars

Tt's also annoying that they're not both on the same axle as each other, I'm going to have to get them moved around in the short term so the fronts and the back have matching tyres per axle.

Old pirellis on the front, and the budgets in the skip! Once the weather warms up let nature aka the lead foot dispose of the pirellis at the front

Wider on the front unless RWD or AWD.

I think I'm going to bite the bullet and just go for a full set, the colder, wet weather we've been having lately has highlighted just how bad both sets currently are. What are people running and recommend? I'm a bit of a sucker for the PS5 sidewall aesthetic but the Asymmetric 6's look really great for the money!

I am currently looking for tyres 225/40/18 and £104 for 6's seems a good deal fitted from bc.
Mk6 GTI Carbon Grey, 2010 Bluetooth and voice fitted, a few VCDS mods still a comfortable family car. Red Scirocco 2011 twin charger stage 1 - enjoyable drive now gone.  White 2016 Polo GTI (roller skate on steroids) replaced with an Indium Grey 2019 7.5 GTI PP.

As long as its on the same axle your fine, mixed & its an MOT failure.

Michelin are offering cash back of up to £100 for 4 tyres, so if you shop around & get a good deal you can also claim this directly from Michelin afterwards.

I did last years offer & after rebate I only paid £480 for 4x 19" 235/35 PS4S  💪
