Title: New project Peugeot 205 GTI and MG ZS180
Post by: Roverdose on 13 May 2012, 10:39
Soon i will be dubless once again and i've already bought my new project! £200 to save it from the scrapyard, it wants 2 patches of welding on the boot floor and the OSF jacking point wants re-building, it came off the road due to popping out the drivers side driveshaft!

Peugeot 205
2.0 8v Turbo
Bailey dumpvalve
Escort Cosworrth intercooler "apparently"
Power boost valve

the rest i have to find out for myself!

I know nothing of peugeot, my first priority at this stage is bodywork, need to stop it getting any worse! Rear lights are on my hit list, used to hate these cars and hated these clear lights more than anything else! The plan is to get it as mint as possible, leave the outide alone, no bodykits!!! and just get the interior and engine as nice as i can! First of all rust proofing though! Someone buy my mk2!!! Any help or advise would be amazing, It kept popping the drivers side driveshaft out, other than that it's complete and works!

Had a 205 Gti about 10 years ago running the same set up along with a 1.6 gearbox and it was an utter flying machine. Nothing could touch it. Good cars but a bit choppy to drive. Really simple to work on, even easier than a Mk2!!

Mine was only bout 170 bhp but acceleration was brutal. Even a normal 1.9 running a 1.6 box is awesome.

This was another one I had...completely standard.

sweet! whats the engine code? like my 16v golf is KR, whats the pugs engine code? i know nothing and getting info is a nightmare! I'm on 205gtidrivers and it's a tad useless, loads  of info but nobody answers your questions!

I honestly can't remember the engine code as its been so long. And this was before I was even online. I didn't do the conversion myself but bought the car like that. I used to phone peugeot eccosse for information, they were always very helpful. Only conversions i've done on the 205 is the 1.6 to 1.9 and a MI16 which were both really simple. Almost plug in and play!!

You kind of took the whole "GTI forum" the wrong way

Certainly looks like a project - some of that rust looks quite nasty from the pics. Interior actually looks like it will come up quite nice though.

Keep us posted with loads of pics!

(And good luck!)

A 1.9 GTI engine code will be XU9JA, 1.6 is XU5J

looks in a bad way to me that car, and the engine looks like a right mess

but for some reason i am liking it, would be good to get it in a decent state and the engine looking fresh

is it turbo technics??  they were 170 bhp. mate had one, was pretty quick, his was a Dimma kitted one back in the 90's

Title: New project Pug 205 GTI Turbo + MG ZS 180
Post by: Roverdose on 14 May 2012, 22:27
Cheers for all the comments! Iv'e not really had the chance to poke around it much yet, I agree the engine is a mess but it runs smooth as a nut and started first time, I warn you progress will be fairly slow, i'm going to treat the rust first and foremost and probably leave it at that for a month or 2 as i've got to get the MG sorted first (MOT and as of tonight clutch master cylinder YAY! ) Gonna change the name of this thread to include the ZS cos it is very much the family pet and i love it! *awaits vast barage of abuse*

I'm going for the OEM look with the Pug, refurb the wheels, freshen up the paint, i quite like the bonnet mod, other than that bin the rear lights and try and replace parts for cleaner ones as and when i come across them, i may try to fabricate some sort of engine cover as it just looks like chaos even when their clean, and i like things to be neat and tidy!

Here's some pics of the kinda look i'm going for, oh and i'm keeping it LOW!

Update, this weekend has been spent rallying, alot of 205's were present and i couldn't fault them, after day one the scoobies and evos are leading followed by mk2 escorsts then a vast barage of 2hoe5's! This makes my willy dribble knowing i've got this car, only issue being that if i was to enter the 205 i would be mixing it up with the 4wd boys, so this is now a rally car project, it's something i've always wanted to do so sod it, i'm doing it, solved the driveshaft issue, i need to swap the 1600 hubs over to 1900 hubs as they sit a fraction closer to the gearbox.

Also , clutch master cylender on ZS is broken, got alot of work bang on mot time now! GAY!
