Title: HOW TO: lay flat rear wiper
Post by: ...joe on 30 October 2005, 17:20
this has to be one of the easiest things to do on a mk2. best of all its free, uses only a 10mm spanner and will take about 10mins.

all photos were taken looking underneath from the back of the car, but it should be obvious where things are when you do it yourself.

1.open tailgate and pop out the 5 clips holding the black plastic trim on.
2. remove trim
3.looking at the motor, you should see this arrangement:

4. undo the bolt and pull away the lever from the spline:

5. rotate the wiper arm round to the desired position, it wont sit perfectly flat so get it as close as possible. then put the arm back onto the splined shaft in its new position:

6. put bolt back on and tighten up. this can be a bit fiddly as things are so close but shouldn't cause you too much grief:

7. test the wiper to make sure it all works fine, it might take a bit of fiddling to get it to sit as you'd want it but its just a case of repeating steps 4-6. then clip the black plastic trim back on. easy!!

a rear arm from a polo coupe has the correct bend if you want it to sit perfectly flat so get down the scrappy on the look out!!
