Title: Mud Flaps
Post by: mk7gti on 07 April 2013, 23:20
Guys just wondering when you ordered your cars did the dealer make any mention of the availability of mud flaps for the GTI?

I'm pretty sure they are an accessory.  A mate of mine used to get them on all of his cars, but I never bothered because I don't like the look of them on sportier cars.   He no longer bothers after realising that there were not actually making that much difference.

Mudflaps used to be about £50 a set of 4 on the MK5 Golf then they seemed to double in price for the Scirocco and MK6 - don't know why. They do look poor on the lower and sportier cars and now they're getting so slimline they don't really do anything because they only sit a couple of inches below the car. My Dad's MK5 Golf rusted quite badly on the bottom of the front wing where the mudflaps meet it - looked like a bit of rubbing abrasion from the mudflap. I wouldn't be rushing out to buy a set!

I definately a regional thing  people from N.Ireland always look for mud flaps on a new car. My dealer did mention that it normally takes a few months for them to appear for the GTI due to the side kirts causing a redesign of the flaps.

Can anyone confirm the prices of the mudflaps?  Configurator still has them at £58 but when I ordered today I was told £76.  Also, my quote was for front & rears and therefore 2 x £76 - I'm sure on the Mk 5 & 6 the one price was for all four?  Anybody have any further information?

Had a call from VW UK today to state there will be no mud flaps for the new GTI at launch due to the side skirts and rear diffuser.

Really? That's good info, I'm a little disappointed though as unlike most I'm a fan and had specced them.  Oh well, on the bright side that's more money off my order!

Lack of Mud Flaps at the launch / early days of the Mk6 GTD, but with in a few months VW had some special ones to fit the GTD & GTI.  Hope they do the same for when I place the order in for my Mk7 GTD for 1st Sept 63 plate on the road!
