If you can get to the chip

Then it's not too hard just faffy

But you have to get down to the bare motherboard and that means de solder of both LCD screens

I broke a screen and replaced with a spare, the spare turned out to be faulty so repaired my original broke screen and had to then Take back to bit to fit my original screen haha

A right mess about

Has to be worth some serious scene points eh

Was a gamble if it would work and it paid off

Absolutely love the approach of "it's possible".

Rav I bought had a knackered ECU and people charge £250 to sort them. No info on web but just digging and digging with a multimeter til I find a couple of dodgy solder joints, solder them and job done.

What was up with the old clocks dude?

Where all my moneys went.

The original clocks had some damage to the circuit board that was non repairable

I had to use some parts off them tho for the new clocks as I had a damaged capacitor on those plus a display was no good as I mentioned above

I managed to break the LCD I needed off the original clocks but later repaired that and re fitted to the new clocks

Bit confusing I know ha! But now have a mint working set with my original miles

And the "it's possible" approach Is how me and Ben always work

This mk3 may look pretty OEM on the outside but the engine is far from it, we was told by many people the MTM / audi RS2 turbo, manifold and waste here kit was a deffinate non possibility

We made it fit and work as I should and tho means its the only golf in he world with this set up

Unique in every way

Not everyone will like 1.8t power but I'm my opinion respect has to be made due to the originality of the route we took

Lovely job so you swapped chips?

Hard job?

Massive magnifying glass, sharp pointed soldering iron and a very steady hand

We are gonna collect a load of different clocks, 8v, 16v and VR6 to see what chips can be exchanged.
We have already established that the early 8v Motometer clocks are an entirely different chip to the 16v clocks and the VR clocks are the same chip as the 16v clocks, gonna try swap over the VR an 16v chips this week at some point to see if they are compatible
