Passer by: 'Hi mate, nice car. What is it?'
F17BAD: Oh hi, it's a VW TT Cupra rs3 GTI Boxter
On a more serious note: What is the actual bhp & torque??
right it goes like this:
the early S3 came with engine codes APY 210bhp (not a fan of this unit because its not as strong and does not have the features of the later S3 engines and also does not map to as much - so i did not want one of these)
Later S3 and all the LCR came with the AMK or BAM (early S3 came with crap APY lump)
These 2 are exactly the same (Bam / Amk) apart from the standard Map
Bam - 225bhp (actually 222bhp to be nerdy
)
AMK - 210bhp
Iv taken this from the Audi sport forum:

mechanically and spec wise then yes they are the same... there are of course subtle differences which make no difference to the performance but are a result of Audi using up the parts bin for the change over to facelift S3's...
One example of this is the bevel box bracket... an AMK S3 (Dane's) that is in for rods has a cast alloy bracket supporting the bevel box to the engine block whereas mine (also an AMK) has a pressed steel one... there will also be revisions to parts that change slightly over the years such as later version coil packs and stuff... depends where you want to go with it all...
At the end of the day, AMK and BAM map up the same... there is no compelling reason to choose BAM over AMK and vice versa other than BAM are in newer S3's... if you can afford to buy a newer S3 you will get a BAM, go for a changeover facelift and you get an AMK...
Same internals, same head... the earlier AMK's had the drillings for the SAI blocked with steel ball bearings as heads were being used up but are still the same small port head the BAM have (and the APY for that matter).
The differences are minimal and largely academicSo yeah, both the AMK and BAM are the ones to look for and map to the exact same because the only difference betrween the 2 codes is the standard mapping. the BAM engine was released for the all new (at the time) TT and Audi wanted this to be more powerfull out of the box than the S3.
Once the TT had made its place in the market the S3 also got the Bam as did the LCR...
Early LCR has the AMK and so do some later ones so its difficult to pin point which has what
Mine is the AMK (a late AMK at that) out of a 2003 LCR
you get more bang for your buck with a remap from the AMK tho coz its mapped down from standard
Mine had a few mods so for
3" custom Stainless steel downpipe,
NO CAT
K&N Induction kit
N249 delete
Full Jetex
Forge 007 DV
80mm TIP
Front mount intercooler
and will soon have a full custom remap so ill be looking at around 270 BHP mark
