A GIANT cloud of continental acid pollen is set to bring misery to allergy sufferers and strip paint from cars.
Germany is already reeling under the impact of the noxious birch pollen and weather experts say it will float across France and on to Britain in the next few days.
Lindsey McManus of Allergy UK said: “People who suffer from hay fever and asthma are likely to be affected by this.
“Birch pollen is the first of the tree pollens released every year, so if you already have symptoms it means you are allergic to this pollen rather than grass pollen.
“Motorists too need to get ready to fight the pollen. Car paint specialist Klaus Herdemertens warned: “The pollen is abrasive and acidic and can burn through paintwork and cost motorists thousands of pounds for repainting.
“The car should be washed thoroughly and not just wiped otherwise the pollen will stick to the car for longer.â€
