According to the late Bill Byldenstein, there is nothing wrong with the standard downpipes and cast manifolds on the VR6...so I wouldn't go expecting any gains on a standard engine.
Certainly the 225+ BHP 2.9 VR6 I built was managing just fine at 7300 RPM (with a big valve head and Schrick 268 cams) on standard manifolds and downpipes.

Personally, on a standard engine I'd spend the £300+ elsewhere...unless you absolutely NEED the bling.

To be honest I would fit itb's just for the noise, as they ain't much use on a vr6 that doesn't like to rev.

Doesn't like to rev, eh?

Lose some weight off the crankline and swap the cams and it revs...like you wouldn't believe!

That's still on plenum injection, and saddled with the standard VR6 'box.

What was the rev limit and power?

I can't help but think I could spend loads on a 12v but still only get 225 max. Where as a can get the 2.8 24v and remap it to that for little money.

In a mk3 obviously

It was unmapped there...so probably 7000RPM.
Well built 2.9 on a 2.9 TB, when mapped was making 225+ BHP and 200+ lb-ft, revving to 7300 RPM IIRC, and pulling to the fuel cut.

It's true though...big money 2.8/2.9 = mapped 2.8 24v...or standard 3.2 24v power wise.

had a dubpower manifold on my jetta, no flexi.. it didn't crack, even when the exhaust hanger failed at 90mph and dragged the exhaust half a mile up the A5  . Can't really comment on the gains it was already fitted when i bought the car.
