Golf Cab problems - 2ltr 95M - Help please
« on: 04 August 2003, 11:54 »
Hi guys, sorry to hijack your forum but I was hoping someone could give me some help please.  My girlfriend has a 95 Golf Cabriolet 2ltr - a lovely car that is perfect in this weather.  Recently the exhaust started blowing, and we lost alot of poweras well as it sounding like a tractor.  We took it to Kwik Fit and changed the exhaus, cat and fixings changed - still sounds a bit loud - Kwik Fit say it isn't blowing but the engine is misfiring still (like it is blowing) and it serious lack of power.  Putting it into a garage this week but would like to be armed with some info on what it could be before I whip out the cheque book. Power is lost throughout.  also......... the clutch is VERY heavy, how do I losen it up (Mrs is beginning to look like a russian athlete, well on her left leg anyhow!).......  How hard is it to change the bulbs on the dash - they have all blown!

Apart from that.... great car!   Your help is much appreciated

Quick fit and places like that will give you a cheap exhaust which will not sound a good as the original.  You could put a new clutch cable this will help with the heavy clutch, but most of the time this means your clutch is on the way out, DONT go to a cheap place to get it done get it done at a VW specialist or this is one of the only times I would recomend to go to a VW dealer.  I got a cheap one at first and I went just over a year later, I then got a VW one and it is still going strong 3 years later

All your dash board bulbs have blown ??

I find that very hard to beleive , sounds to me like there is a problem with the earth in the dash board.

cheers so far guys for your help.  Any idea on the running / misfiring issues - could it be the sensor that goes to the exhaust (remember something from my 205 gti days) or the electronic points?!  Someone must have had similar issues in the past.

Thanks
