Title: New owner - GT Bluemotion Tech TDi
Post by: asif on 17 August 2018, 14:09
Hi All,

Thought this would be a good place to introduce myself since i'd be spending most of my time in this corner of the forum.
I'm not new really, had a Mk4 Golf previously then left for a Civic for 7 years which got year ended and written off last month :(

So I bought a Black Mk7, 13 plate GT as per the subject header. Any help on what to look out for any common problems I'm all ears.

I'll put some pics up soon as I just bought it yesterday.

Thanks in advance
Asif

Hello!

Things to look out for:

Failed waterpumps
White worm on the wheels (if diamond cut)
Rusty wheel hubs
Cornering light bulbs blowing (not sure you have those)
Electric window button failures (won't go down/up in one shot push)

Can't think of any other common mk7 problems though

Cheers mate, appreciate your response.

I have the cornering lights I think, the one's that go on when I turn the wheel, essentially the fog light. I'll keep an eye on them, working at the minute though which is good.
No diamond cut rims on this model as it's not a GTD so I'm safe there also.

The cornering lights I'm on about are the ones inside of the headlight unit itself - but I think I've seen others use a front fog maybe?

Anyway, on the Xenon based headlights, the cornering bulb blows rather more often that you expect. In the 3 years and ~75k I did in my last GTD, I had those bulbs go twice (you get one pop then the other a week later!). Considering that I didn't replace any other bulb in the car in 3 years, I consider that a problem.
