Title: Dashboard Lights, what should I do?
Post by: jaygolfgti on 02 July 2016, 22:11
So, I've had dashboard lights on now for sometime. ABS and the swerve sign. My error checker and VW says that it's either a sensor issue or a electrical fault. I've also had the exhaust light come on and off at times, not sure why, but it's fine. I don't know which it is, sensor or electrical fault. So, what should I do? The lights come on and off, but seem to be on far more now.

What are the exact fault codes?

And what car do you drive?

Suppose the engine light is because it's chipped (badly)...

No, I had the car chipped yesturday and the lights have nothing to do with that. It was done well at Deamon Tweaks.
As for the 00290 is the main code, there is a second too. I'll need to find that again.

What car is it?

Replace left rear ABS sensor for starters.

You got it chipped with Christmas lights on dash? That is a bit like putting granny that moans about her aching hips on steroids to make her do the olympics....

How was it chipped? Full rolling road pre and post adjustment(s) with probe in exhaust? Or generic 'map'?

It's the MK5 2006 Golf Gti petrol. The car has been fine since the chip (it's a bluefin chip).
These are the symbols that are showing:

The exhaust light was one but went off since having the bluefin (I think the bumpvale occasionaly creates an error that I had fitted a whole ago, so not worrying about that, it's rarley on).

So, where would I get a new sensor, and how much?

Abs, traction control and tyre pressure.
Id say you may want tracking doing. If its too far out the the traction control light will be on as its out of parameters.

There should have a sensor in the brake area,  Just pull out and renew it. Most likely the sensor problem.

Have you got a warning on the screen for ABS/esp failure too?

I would start with the tyre pressures first. as we had a polo in work recently with the abs light coming on at 75mph. turned out, someone had fitted the wrong tyre to the o/s/f . so with that in mind, maybe a really underinflated tyre would have the same effect.
