Golf mk8 / Re: Avon calling!

I had my steering wheel replaced last December and the bongs stopped, but just this last week I've started to get the usual failure of assistance systems on startup complete with a symphony of bongs, and the infotainment rebooted itself tonight.  Just as the weather is getting cooler again...

Hopefully the MK8.5 doesn't have these issues.

A recent large infotainment reboot that required me to turn the car off and restart it, was what gave me the final push to order an 8.5, as I am coming to the end of my warranty period, I felt it was best to jump ship now. I’ve actually been pretty fortunate with software problems on my mk8 being few and far between, I too really do hope the 8.5 is problem free. 🤞

Mine arrived yesterday (Dolphin Grey), love it!

Here are a few small issues I've noticed...

I don't have the same issue with the touch screen noise being loud but the parking sensors are insanely loud, even on the lowest setting!

The ride is slightly firmer than my mk7.5, but not too noticeable.

The VW app includes an option for remote unlock but absolutely doesn't work...the app is awful and practically useless.

Some functions on the screen (such as "shop") say they require a software update and to access it in notifications. When you go to notifications, no such option exists.

Other than that all good so far...

Golf mk7 / Re: 19" to 18" wheels

I think that less unsprung weight as a result of lighter wheels should benefit ride, handling and feel.
Any opinions?

I am sorely tempted to change my Parkers to 18 inch Prets.

As I asked before, does the VW Accessories price include dealer fitting? Otherwise I guess re-fitting existing tyres will add a further 4 x £30 ish which takes the total cost nearer £2K. Ouch.

Fitted my steering wheel cover:

Very nice, where did you buy it from and how long did it take you to fit it?
Honestly it is a game changer, feels sooo good to drive!
One thing I would say is think about the marker at 12oclock, mine is not 100% dead centre, and it annoys me a little! I couldn't move it any more so is likely an error in manufacture...
Anyway, its from aliexpress, approx £15. It is very easy to fit, but does take about 2-3hours.

Moonstone gets the thumbs up from me, probably my favourite GTI colour.

I had a mk 8 GTI in Moonstone. They can look very smart. You pays your money, you makes your choice.
