So yesterday's job was to replace the rear brakes as the warning light had come on. Also something had gotten inbetween the pad and disc and scored the surface
I would say it was a fairly straightforward job except that the 18mm bolts holding the bracket on were seized solid and required some improvisation with a breaker bar and a lump hammer to crack them off! Then we had to bash the discs off as there were rusted onto the hub..........
Tools you need for the job are
Jack and axle stands
VCDS - to disengage the pistons in the caliper
18mm socket for the two bolts holding the pad bracket on
13mm socket for the two bolts holding the caliper on
One tip I would suggest for those that have Quattro is to jack up both sides at the same time. This will allow you to rotate the disc should you need to smash it off
Didn't get any real pictures of the job as me and my mate were too busy swearing and bashing lol
I missed the bar at one point though....
Can see the scoring on the disc; ignore the dents. That was us hitting the disc to free it off the car!!
I actually think the wear sensor broke rather than the pads were too low
Old pads
New shiny brakes!
