How do you know if it's oil based?  Do you know if K&N ones are oil based?  Or Neuspeed ones?

http://www.awesome-gti.co.uk/vw%20golfmk4/engine.html

I think the k&n panal filters are oil based not sure on the others
You'd think Awesome wouldn't sell an induction kit for the 1.8T that they know will damage it...

I agree mate but if your filter is oil based it WILL clog up the maf sensor which  IIRC costs about £90  :undecided:
Well before I buy it I'll give them a ring and check.  They have different kits for different cars, so I would imagine the one for the 1.8T would do no harm to it.  It looks like it's possible to fit an induction kit oneself, but I really do have 0% knowledge of fiddling with cars!

Yeah should be an easy job TBH tho ive never fitted one!! Ive just got a replacement panal filter from pipercross.

Reckon I'd have to tell the insurance company?  all I'm doing is replacing the air filter with a better one, technically ;)

No you WILL defo have to tell them mate!!

I lad on here had water sucked up through his modded air intake (blew the engine) and wrote off his car, the insurance nearly didn't pay out because he didn't tell them about it!!

Well the next two things on my list are the dump valve, then induction kit, then I'll probably save to re-map the thing.  God know what it will all do to my insurance! :P

Then I'm considering upgrading the brakes as they're actually worse than the ones I used to have on my C2 VTS.  You'd think better brakes would lower your insurance a bit, bet it doesn't though :)
