It should be easier than this but back to having paint indecisions on my clubsport!!

I had settled on Kings Red but was in the local VW dealers yesterday having our wee Up Gti serviced.
Arteon under showroom lights looked good but Golf Gti and Polo outside on wet cloudy day looked dreadful.
They just looked so dark and dull. I know lighting effects all colours but it did Kings red no favours.

I would take, Tornado red, Reflex silver or Atlantic blue in a second but alas all gone.

Back to thinking things over again, I'm even now leaning towards white!!

Yeah, Kings Red looks good only under the sun...(because it at least somehow reminds of Tornado Red )

Other than that, it's "dark red" which I don't like.

For the standard 8.5 GTI I would probably choose Moonstone Grey, and for the CS - White.

It's a pity we don't have really interesting colours..

I had Indium grey in my old 7.5 GTI and loved it. That wasn’t available for the 8.5 so went with Pure White which I think works well in different light situations. The below was a gloomy day and looks good. That is before it got really filthy on a long drive.

Current: Golf GTI 8.5. Pure white/black, pan roof, Queenstown, DCC, HK, Area view, spare wheel
Gone: 2018 Golf GTI 7.5 performance pack with standard spec
Gone: 2016 Golf GTE 7
Gone: 2013 Audi A3 S-Line
Gone: 2010 Golf GT TDI

Picked up my mk8.5 GTI Last week in pure white and so so happy with it. Yes it's dirty already but it still looks good and all the little red detailing on it really stand out on the white.
Glad I went for it. Pic attached (hopefully) on a dark day and still looking decent

Thanks for your thoughts and the photos chaps. I appreciate paint colour is down to everyone's own taste but good to hear others.

The only reason I am a bit reluctant to go white is that other than her Tornado red Mk7 Gti all the wifes cars have been white as she loves it and I like a bit of variety on the drive.
When cleaned up they all look great and I'm well used to removing tar, insects, pollen etc.

So, looks like I'll go down the Pure white road. All the black/red parts on the Clubsport help to break it up nicely.
Current,
2021 Audi S3 Vorsprung, Tango Red.
2020 Up Gti, Tungsten silver. (Early buy for daughter...who's 15!!)
Previous,
2019 Mk7.5 Gti PP, Indium Grey.
2016 Mk7 Gtd Carbon grey.
2014 Mk7 Gti, Tornado red.
2006 Mk5 Gti, Reflex silver.     Plus many more.

My Mk8 is pure white and I can't think of any other colour I'd have.  The black and red trim wouldn't show up half as well on any other colour.  VW used to do a colour called White Silver and I wish they'd bring that back.

Pure White Mk8 Clubsport

Enough said

Mind you, crystal ice blue or moonstone are also great colours for a Clubby.

Thanks guys, the wait for delivery on Wednesday feels like forever.
Well, got it now and had to drive it very carefully for the first few journeys so that I can get familiar with not having to use a clutch (never driven a DSG before).

Took it for a blast today. I know it's been 4 years since I sold my mk7.5 PP, but OMG it is quick and precise. Have tried out the drive and sport DSG settings and comfort and sport mode on various roads including country lanes and I am very impressed.

Spent hours setting it up and customising it for my needs and even though I vaguely remember what some of the settings are for, I did find it a bit annoying that there is no paper manual for it.

Generally very much pleased and impressed with it but can't help wondering why the infotainment screen is so big and why there are a couple of rattles in the car (had the same issue with the rattles in my 2020 Audi A3 Edition 1) and I am guessing that it is due to the increased use of thinner plastic materials.

After 3000 miles I’m yet to get any rattles apart from the panel on the end of the dash (drivers side) buzzing slightly, fixed it with some thin foam tape around the edge of the opening, I had exactly the same noise from the same place on my old mk8 and mk7, and one of my mk6’s I think! It’s fine now, as for the screen, it did feel big at the start, but now seems normal and I don’t feel it intrudes at all, in fact, having sat back in a Mk8 recently, the mk8 screen feels decidedly small, and dare I say…. sh!te! 😬

Oh, and Kings Red rarely looked good in my opinion, not what I expected at all. It was an absolute no no when I chose the spec of my 8.5.

Took it for a blast today. I know it's been 4 years since I sold my mk7.5 PP, but OMG it is quick and precise. Have tried out the drive and sport DSG settings and comfort and sport mode on various roads including country lanes and I am very impressed.

I came from a manual 7.5 GTI and the DSG does take a bit of getting used to, even though I have had one before. I am ok with the screen size, but its a phaff to have to turn off the annoying lane assist every time you get in the car. It is obviously not a thing with all new cars as I recently hired a brand new Corsa on holiday and I soon found the lane assist could easily be permanently turned off via a button.

The online manual (via MyVW) is very vague about what the driver profiles (eco, comfort, sport) actually do (I think there is detailed info online buried in a technical VW website?). Most select Individual mode as that at least gives an idea of what you are changing. However, again annoyingly, the car will default back to comfort when the ignition is switched off; something that didn't happen with the mk 7.5.
