Fill yer boots:

drivethedeal.com

I received that same email today too.

I went to DtD website yesterday to see if the discount had changed as was just curious and noticed that anyone with a current PCP agreement with VWFS can get an additional £625 off!

Wot no Atlantic Blue?! One of the best colours for the GTI imho. But then I liked Black Rubin, so what do I know...😆

I’d jump sooner rather than later if I were you Jon, especially if you’re going to throw a few options on but keeping it below the £40k.
Chances of getting the car actually delivered before the next price rises are only going to get slimmer by the day.
Once the list price hits £40k on registration you may as well plump up a bit extra and get an R, IMHO.

It is crazy/scandalous that the £40k "luxury car tax" threshold hasn't moved one jot since 2017. It is a true stealth tax. Even just inflation would mean it should now be nearly £50k. An article in AutoExpress this week states that just over 30% of all new cars registered in 2023 got caught by the luxury car tax, and I think that included about 80% of all EVs. I refuse to pay it on principle, which rather limits my choices!

The Golf has disappeared from the configurator- could the Clubsport and R be getting added?

The £40k threshold won’t be increasing any time soon IMHO, especially if - as we’re being told - there’s a £20bn hole to fill. It’s an easy revenue generator for HM Gov and as car manufacturers continue to increase their list prices, more people will fall into the additional VED band trap.

Any reference to it being a luxury tax was removed some years ago from the gov.uk website - maybe as an acknowledgment that £40k doesn’t buy you a brand new luxury car these days.

On top off that, anyone thinking of getting the new GTI should have done in July. Drivethedeal have just reduced the discount by £300.

Dropped into my dealer today. They are independent but a pretty big VW player.

They only had a  Mk 8.5 1.5 tsi hybrid in as demo. (With possibly the worst ever wheels/wheel trims in the history of car making).

I asked when they would get a GTI demo in? December 24.

What was factory order forecast? Dec 24 if ordered now.

If ordered now, could the price be guaranteed or at least the 40k limit not be exceeded? Sorry, no.

I’m not blaming the dealer or staff for any of this, very nice people. But I can’t help feeling this will firm up values of the 7.5 and the 8 for some time to come.

For those lucky few who immediately dived in and bagged a new one I can only say……well done indeed!

Driving past the dealer on the way to work this morning, noticed this inside the showroom. Had a look after work, very nice. Was tempted to go white instead of the moonstone I have on order and get it sooner. But still got to sell my T6 first, and really like moonstone

Nice! I've ordered the white too. Looks good in that photo.

Anymore photos? Side photos?

Only took the one pic I’m afraid. Rear lights look really good contrasting against the white
