Yes it needs changing--its the steering wheel causing the problem

Did they update the infotainment system while changing the wheel?

1941 installed by dealer here in Ireland yesterday to fix reboot issues 🤞

Sorry to bump an old thread but where did you get the update done? I have a GTD MK8 with emergency&travel assist bongs issue. Cant seem to get VW Ennis, Limerick or Galway to update my software from 1788. Thanks

Got it done in Joe Duffy, Navan. It fixed the infotainment reboot issue I had.... Although I've had a handful of reboots since, it's well improved. I had steering wheel replaced, that fixed the emergency and travel assist bongs.... I have heard of the early replacement wheels needing to be replaced again, so I would sit on a dealer until they sort it out, especially if it's still within the 3 year warrant.

Side note... I had my SOS module replaced too.

Mine was a UK import only gone on Irish plates a month ago. Bought from a non VW garage here, have a warranty but only for gearbox & engine. Wonder how much a steering replacement will cost ffs  :embarrassed:

If the car is under 3 years old, it will still have warranty with VW. I imported Mk7 GTD that had warranty work done here in a VW garage.
Gone: Mk 5 GT Sport 140
Sticking around: Mk 7 GTD
Current: Mk 8 GTI Clubsport

New wheel fitted - no issues on drive home. Software still on 1788 which is annoying but if problem of travel & emergency assist is sorted I wont complain
