End of warranty?

Car booked in for latest recall at end of the month.
In May it will need MOT etc. VW advise end of warranty check.
What are those of you with similar time scales thinking of re extended warranty, service plans please?
Car has done 10,000 miles and has had the usual recalls plus new steering wheel, front struts replaced early on due to creaking noises.
I aim to keep her another 2.5 years and then go for a non performance car. I love my gti’s but I’m retired now and bit more sedate in my driving practices 😂
I have had no bongs since steering wheel was replaced but I am a bit apprehensive of the cover provided by extended VW warranty of inherent design faults/recalls possibly not being covered?

Can’t comment on warranty but…..don’t give up the GTIs!
I didn’t get my first until I did retire and I’m now on my 4th.
No intention of thinking my age here!

I was retired for a year and then got pulled back into work by a mate, GTI is going nowhere.
With respect to a warranty, I didn’t bother extending after 3 years, mostly because of nightmare ‘not covered sir’ conversations with JLR a few years back and also the GTI had been flawless over the first three years. However, given some of the posts on here re. MK8 software gremlins, I think I’d extend if it was mine as long as the known points are copper bottom covered?

Had this on my last 3 GTI worth paying for the no excess option also cheaper and way more comprehensive (full component cover option) than most aftermarket warranty companies too.

You must take it out BEFORE your existing 3 years warranty expires though.

@Yorkshire gti; if you’re planning on keeping your car for 2+ years beyond the original factory warranty, then you might want to consider VW’s All In product (2 yrs warranty, 2 yrs servicing, 2 yrs roadside assistance cover and 2 yrs MOT’s). Depends where you plan on getting your car serviced in future; if you’re planning on using a VW independent specialist, then probably not worth going for the All In product.

As with any extended warranty, always worth studying to small print and T&C’s to make sure you’re happy with the scope of cover provided to ensure it meets your needs.

Thanks Davo.  I will be extending my 3 year lease for a further 12 months when it ends in June.  I won't have any right to buy or extend after that so the 2 year "All In" cover is not an option.   I'll have to go with this VW 12 month extended warranty and will make sure I do it before the car is three years old.

I've had a quick look at it and it states that it covers:

"The costs of repairing or replacing the factory-fitted mechanical and electrical components of your vehicle that have suffered sudden failure during the period of cover subject to the maximum claim limit and the terms and conditions of this policy.

We will also pay for the costs of repairing or replacing the covered factory fitted mechanical and electrical components of your vehicle that have suffered sudden failure as a result of water ingress.

We will also pay for the costs of consequential failure of a covered component subject to the maximum claims limit and the terms and conditions of this policy."

The obvious exclusion is perishable items but I'd say a steering wheel and infotainment system aren't meant to be perishable.

Having similar thoughts myself.  Mine is 3 years in April on a 4yr PCP deal.  There is a deal that gives you 2 years warranty and 2 years servicing that look interesting.

Only question is whether I keep it beyond the PCP period as that involves paying the lump sum off.  They're keen to get me in to discuss 'options' at the moment so might see what they say.  New prices are silly so might be better off sticking with what I have.

VW's 3 year warranty for new cars, like most other manufacturers, has the added benefit of Europe wide (possibly Worldwide?) roadside assistance and recovery (RA & R).

If I buy a one year additional VW warranty, I don't think it includes RA & R.  Or does it?

I'm asking because I'm planning a two week drive in Europe just after the car is 3 years old and RA & R cover bought separately is about £85 from the AA.   

Another option might be to get it included in next years insurance.

Isn’t it just one year roadside / Euro assistance with a new VW? That’s all I’ve ever got when I’ve bought a new VW.

Just checked VW’s website which seems to confirm just 1 year’s cover for UK roadside assistance and Euro assistance.
