MK8 Golf R - Radio Logos via USB-C?
« on: 05 February 2024, 09:32 »
Hi all,

Really sorry as I know this will be a common question but just can't work out from google and other forums a clear answer on this pertaining to MK8's.

Is it possible to upload logos via the USB-C connection as I have these images stored and ready, now I've transferred from my SD card which was in the Mk7.5 R?

My new car arrives tomorrow and although this is not an end of the world scenario but it will niggle my little brain not seeing any logos

My wifes brand new VW T-Cross has a browse for logos option, but the following screen when selecting this is blank, no option to select a source which is odd so wondering if it'll be the same on my R?
Current(2024): MK8 Golf R, Pure White, RV Camera & 19" Estoril Diamond Cut

I don't think you can.... they removed that as a vulnerability in MIB3

Both my mk8’s had basic station logos pre-loaded so no need to import any.
As per title, just because it’s an R model doesn’t afford any particular special treatment!

Many years ago on a mk6 I had to use an add on DAB tuner (owing to the factory headunit not supporting DAB) which featured a scrolling text bar in the RCD/RNS display which was really useful.
Alas, even despite the large mk8 screen we only get fixed text which cuts off the artist name if it’s a long song title just like in the mk7.
Hopefully the 8.5 will address this.

Yep that's for the mk8, and the only official route for updating the radio station database, however it doesn't fill in the gaps I'm afraid, I still have a ton of them missing.
Apparently there is an ongoing argument between manufacturers and the radio stations, the manufacturers say its in the specification for radio stations to transmit the logo, but the stations say its up to the manufacturers to include the data 🤦‍♂️

Almost certainly some sort of UK implementation of dab that means it doesn't work...
