Yes, the R. Wifey wants to replace our family wagon (Passat 2.0TFSI) with a diesel. The new one has the GTD engine so I was wondering how often we'd be filling it up.

Diesel definitely seems to be the way to go now,  for everyday usable performance you can't really go wrong with them.  Its becoming difficult to justify running a petrol instead of a diesel now.

Good MPG I think - I never got more than 25-27 from my Mk5 GTI (Manual)

I drive it like a grandad  I do quite a few long motorway journeys in it, so it's just cruising most of the time.

I just got back from a trip up north, empty roads, no rozzers, 170 miles, 2 hours ish, only managed 38.4 mpg.

Got bang on 50mpg this morning on the way up there.

Pound for pound, its got to be the best engine if you need a balance between fun and economy. A great engine...25.5k in 7 months and still feels like new...

Gt TDI with the bluefin

I've only covered 8k since getting the car with no long trips yet, 1 planned for Feb to Manchester. I average 53MPG combined.

Any you GTD boys added the cruise control ?. I use this all the time in road work areas saves forgetting the limit....

Will post after the Manchester run as that should be 400-500 miles round trip

I only use cruise alot, specially when I take a call or a travelling abroad. I go to a place in Germnay and I can just make it their and back on a tank if i dirve carefully no faster than about 90...what amazes me about my car is how far it will go with a range of 'zero....'
In circumstances when your listening out for the engine to die, I use my foot.
