I wouldn't have thought it was a TDI/GTD specific issue

but driving in Laaandon would probably involve a lot of accelerating and braking where as maybe if you commuted on motorways and dual carriageways it would be less so.
The more you brake the more the discs will wear obviously, and that's as far as I go with science.
I've had a few VWs where the front brakes have lasted until 70k but I've had others where they are nearly worn out at 40k, I've never owned one of them from absolutely factory fresh new so can't comment on how they were driven before I owned them, however I'm fairly gentle on brakes and haven't done trackdays for some years now.
