Do apologise if this has been answered already but could do with some advice regarding my cracked sunroof trim. Mk 7.5, sunroof trim has cracked for the third time! First 2 times it was under the original warranty. First time VW replaced the trim, second time I was led to believe they changed the sunroof cassette. I’ve now noticed it’s cracked again (in the same place as the two previous cracks). It’s now outside of the original warranty but I have the All Components Cover that comes with my service plan. I know this does not cover sunroofs however, just wondered if anybody had managed to get VW to replace the trim in this sort of situation and if so how you went about it

Thanks for everyone’s replies.

I shied away from buying one, until this weekend when I had a go installing a Nextbase in a Focus, so has given me the confidence along with your replies and UTube recordings.

I now fell “… I can do this …” and my next thought is which side to route the 2nd channel cable down, the left (passenger) or right (driver).

Have seen some route down the passenger side, same side as the power cable, while another suggested the right for the 2nd channel…

As it’s a Blackvue routing down the driver side might make wire management at the front a little tidier..

Newer kits now come with the hard wire accessory, so ready to go..!

Cheers!

Hi @MOBY36,

Back in 2023 my car was 3 months outside of manufacturer warranty, and extended warranty would not cover "bodywork" ...

After contacting VW directly and the local service centre submitted a claim, VW agreed under god will to burden the parts cost, I paid the labour.

If it were me, I would compose a letter / mail to VW, highlighting the 3rd time and repeated component failure.

Maybe research and contact your local Trading Standards office?

Good luck!

Those look great. Part number 000071213E. Very expensive but I'm posting the part number here for myself later :)

Me: Oh nice, I wonder how much they are..
Also Me: chokes on coffee

Yeah, expensive for what they are tbh. The VW logo ones are the same price, had they of not already been fitted to my previous mk8 and subsequently replaced with the originals when I traded it in, I would never have put any on my 8.5.

I think Japan measures speed and distance in kph and kilometres so the speedo and odometer won’t be correct for the UK. Additionally, there’s a chance that VW doesn’t apply the same level of corrosion protection to cars originally built for the Japanese market as Japan doesn’t grit its roads - maybe something to check out.

I’m inclined to agree with @2007GTI though; I’d look for a UK car rather than a Japanese import.

There are plenty of UK spec / supplied cars for sale, which you can track their history through previous MOTs.

So my advice is don't bother, unless very cheap, high spec and has proven service history.

Also who listens to FM these days, UK spec cars have DAB as standard.
