So is this a good plan?
wash it using 2 buckets and a wash mitt
Dry it with a chamois leather
Use meguiars clay bar and quick detailer
Then meguiars wax
and then what...
I'm trying to keep the cost down aswell...
Thanks
Tim

don't dry with a chamois; get a Sonus Der Wonder drying towel
after the clay bar you are going to need some paint cleanser; try the Megs 3 stage products.
Then get a decent wax; something like Dodo juice or Collinite would be you're best bet. Wax is the final step and what gives you paint the protection from the elements
What have you already got in the way of products?

you forgot the most important thing.... polish! i'd also dry with a waffle weave drying towel.
so....
wash,
clay,
wash,
dry,
polish,
wax.
when you're feeling flush or if you can be bothered, after polish you want to glaze, sealant, then wax.

ain't the paint cleanser the same type of thing though as polish is essentially a cutting agent :undecided:

sorry i meant t_j_g forgot polish not you! i was typing as you posted and couldn't be arsed to amend it!

Cool thanks guys. I have hardly any useful products.
If i'm trying to keep the cost down what's the ideal lot to go for, does anywhere do a gift bag or such?
Noticed meguiars clay and QD on ebay for £14 delivered, what other sites are there?

halfords do various gift packs. not sure how usefull alot of them are but the autoglym ones are pretty good, come in a nice bag and make a good christmas present.. hint hint. also being from halfords any old relative should be able to find them!

the main site i use is cleanyourcar.co.uk (http://www.cleanyourcar.co.uk) good value and quick delivery if you're looking on ebay look for the user elite car car.
like everyone is saying if you want it to gleam you'll need a polish or glaze or both really.
i prefer the sonus clay over the megs as its finer so less risk of marring the paint
sonus clay (http://www.cleanyourcar.co.uk/detailing-clay/sonus-sfx-ultra-fine-detailing-clay-sampler/prod_83.html)

Trying to put a list together here's what i have so far without cloths and so on
Sonus SFX Ultra-Fine Detailing Clay Sampler
Sonus SFX-1 Restore Polish
Meguiars NXT Generation Liquid Wax
ClearKote Wax Applicator Pad
Microfibre Wash & Polish Mitt
What else do i need, anything i'm missing or is there better products than those listed around the same price(or cheaper)

Meguiars NXT Generation Liquid Wax
i'd go for a pure wax over a synthetic wax, the NXT will give you a good finish but its not as durable as a pure wax
personally i'd recomend
collinite 476s (http://www.cleanyourcar.co.uk/wax/collinite-no-476s-super-doublecoat-auto-wax/prod_207.html) or
collinte marque D'Elegance (http://www.cleanyourcar.co.uk/wax/collinite-915-marque-d-39-elegance-premium-auto-wax/prod_281.html)
