After cleaning out the box I noticed that the lower part, below the air filter, has a hole and cavity underneath the turbo inlet hose. Just wondering what is its purpose. Anyone know

I believe it's a snow guard, although alot of people take them out. I have also read it helps with smooth air flow? May not be true though ...

Without opening mine up, I'd guess it's either a resonator (to lower the induction noise levels) or some sort of drain to remove all the water coming through the inlet ducting.
Just a guess though!

Are you talking about this - https://parts.vw.com/p/Volkswagen__Golf/Air-Cleaner-Baffle-Grille/54538251/5Q0129668B.html ? It's a 'baffle' or 'grille' No idea why it's there though, I took mine out as it didn't appear conducive to air flow....

It's officially called a snow guard and a lot of people remove it. Not sure if it has any benefits or not but mine won't come out at all

Sorry I'm not making myself clear. It's a small, angled chamber(roughly 40mm X 60mm X 30mm) directly below the Turbo inlet hose, part of the lower air filter casing. I wonder if it was blocked off, would it improve air flow :nerd:

A picture might help?
