Saw Toothing
« on: 17 October 2021, 14:32 »
All, I have just got myself a cracking MK6 GTI after my son had his Edition 35 back off me, I have had to take the 17 inch Monza wheels fitted with Bridgestone Potenza tyres off as there is a horrendous droning noise from the rear. I have fitted some 18 inch Pretoria wheels with Conti 6 tyres fitted and all is now quiet. I want to put the Monza alloys back on as I want the car as stock as possible but does anybody know of a cure to stop the saw toothing as I just don’t want to put new tyres on only for the same issue to comeback.

Mine suffered it. Rotating the wheels front to back helped. Have the geometry setup checked. They are often out of spec or at the limits out of the factory. Mine was. I've not suffered the issue to the same degree since getting it setup. The protenzas are a noisy hard tyre to start with and don't  help the issue.

Cheers for the reply, this is a very low mileage car only 19k from new with one owner so it’s certainly had an easy life to date

Ditto Snoopy's comments. Had this on a Scirocco. Seems to be vw problem where factory suspension tolerances go out after being on the road for a while. Full Hunter check sorted it for me.
Mk6 GTI Carbon Grey, 2010 Bluetooth and voice fitted, a few VCDS mods still a comfortable family car. Red Scirocco 2011 twin charger stage 1 - enjoyable drive now gone.  White 2016 Polo GTI (roller skate on steroids) replaced with an Indium Grey 2019 7.5 GTI PP.
