Awesome work you done there dude, always looked at your thread everytime you updated it

+1 it's the only time i venture into the Mk2 Dub Rides section
looks nice but your sump must be scraping the floor! mine had scene scrapage and the sump plug was missing half its head when my mk2 vr6 was that low... now raised it up on the coilies
It's a god awful 5 door mate. Haha
You need a guy called Jolfa on here or Rich@SBP on Edition.
Does a very nice job at about 170 ish all in.
My dash is starting to wear a little in some places now unfortunatley.

small update:
Had the centers from my wheels stolen from the car at Santa Pod for VAGFest. That was 50 quid down the drain just getting those ordered up to replace!
Since getting back, the car is feeling VERY underpowered and feels like its missing slightly. Got a new set of plugs on thier way to me. Thats another 40 quid.
Once that was sorted.... My right side sill decided to fall off and bend its self out of shape. Another 104 squiddies later, and I have a brand new set of sills for both sides ordered up.
I feel raped :(
(http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v615/madmanluke/001007349048.jpg)
Hah, yeah. Had a heart attack when they said you need 10 selfadhesive clips at 4.75 each. Figured 5 would suffice for now :p
How did you put them on. Clip the clips on, and have the tape exposed then just fit it. Then just give the brakets a squeeze on the sill to make sure they are attached?
That is one sexy looking car!!!
Lol,
What did I use to originaly puck it? .... A hockey puck lol.
Mk3 subframe, mk2 front cross member.
LOL... yeah... Who did that? They need welding up!
Completley un modified using a solid mount.
It can mate. The position s exactly the same, although the mount on the vr sits at a lot more flat angle unlike the 8/16v.
What you need is a solid mount from a guy called duff on eBay, or a vibratechnics mk2 vr mount (lots of monieeeeesss)
Ignored the above, and lowered it another 10mm on the colies. Its on the floor for edition!
Machine polishing the car today hopefully, lets see how that goes!
shhhh... ive worked my self up that I NEED new paint haha.ha ha... same as mine then! except mines worse.
Seriously though, looks over from 10m away, up close its JANK
what look is that mate?
It's a lot of work involved.
The wheels are 8" ET10 AND wide track. So makes it roughly et 8/7 or maybe lower over standard mk2 track.
To get those under g60's, there is literally nothing left underneath the plastic, it's all been cut out.
And with the camber, it was running around 2degrees standard up front. You literaly need to undo the bolts that go through the strut. Have some one hand off the discs to pull them put straight. Then Re tighten.
I'm looking to have the rear quaters cut out under the arches again so I can run 5-10mm spacers on the back. Getting into the realms of needing air just to be able to let the front wheels clear when turning!
Ignore all the badwidth images for now. im sorting that.
Dilema of this week? I genuinely cant decide so need some input. I like both looks equally the same!
Wipered?

Or de-wipred?

Thoughts?
Just picked up golf+ mag this morning and found a nice little picture of my car in last months Prept Vs Players show report :)
Had a set of VDO guages turn up yesterday.
Today i sorted out the wiring loom for them to run and also got a two pole oil pressure sender.
Does any one know how easy it is to change what colour they light up? They light up orange currently.
I need to cut my console up yet. That will happen tomorrow. I also need to figure out if the housing that came with it will fit into that space.

Any thing i like really. It's set up at the moment to display accurate speed (unlike my clocks!) acceleration G force and side acceleration (conering) G force.sweet, whats provinding all that then?
It's all built into the brain box that runs the unit. It sits under the seats or best calibration. The gps provides the speed(you can use a wire from the clocks but it will read digitally what the cars clocks are saying.
The brain box has a n accelerometer built in for the g forces v
Hmmm. not really. I was doing some testing with my gobo mount again the other night so you can hear little snippets of it between the noise of the wind. Thats when it was blowing a little too. Il see if i can get anything during the week.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gfIlA3yYTYE
That was quite a large wheel spin. + they are standard rear mounts. id hate to think what it would look like standard mounts all round....
Ive got nothing bad to report about one either after 15000 miles on it :P
Cheers mate
Well the last two days ive been to leeds and back (via birmingham) and i seem to have developed two issues.
The fans are on constantly, and seem to be at full pelt. Not normal speed like it would usualy. The fix I had was to pull the fuse out when moving. Push it the fuse back in when sitting in traffic. wasnt fun I tell thee. Not sure what the issue is. Nothing is bridging so making a circuit. Possibly faulty fan controller/ temp sender on the radiator?
The other issue is the battery light seems to flick on and off depending what kind of bumps I hit. Ive checked it all over and I cant find anything immediately wrong so thinking it could be a loose connection on the clocks/fusebox? Could well be a fault with the alternator.
Seems logical. Il give it a shot.
I think im right in saying I can just bridge the connections and it will turn on so I can tell if the switched is buggered that way.
Cheers :)
Sorry this is late! got a new lens today so thought id smash two birds with one stone.

How do I embed Youtube videos?
I used to have a full scorpian system, (mk2 one so from downpipe back). I have basicaly cut it up to work with the vr. Its a bit of a mix of scorpian middle silencer + backbox, 6 branch, decat, and then powerflow pipe work to join up the silencers again. Take a look at the underneath of the car a page or so back.
Sounds either like dodgey welding or rust to me. My first thought would be engine movement but like you say you have a standard manifold so you shouldn't be have issues.
That's pimp :D love it.
Dan
yep, factory interior. Literally have no idea how... hahaMust have been a special order or something!....
yeah, some one has had the badge. Ebay special for a new one at a tenner. :) Its not genuine but....Give a feck. lol

ok cool well I had rubjonny look at the wireing for me and all looks fine we had no fuel but the pump was making a noise so fault this was ok. From the tank anyway . I no the. lambda sensor isn't plugs in as the connector is knakerd is this ok?
lol yeah. literally just over a year ago. The car would have been taxed for a year 1st jan. I have a habbit of changing sh!t about annually with this car lol
Yeah new chains will be going on. I bought a set a few months ago ready to do it when the engine came out but i cant find them! :undecided:
Hopefully il come across them in their 'safe place' soon.
I don't honestly think Il ever be 'finished' ( what ever that means!) with this car. There will always be something I want to do/try with it.
Yeah, the alarm is just so bad, its a professional guy that everyone recommended but its just a mess. I suppose there is no real tidy way of installing it however without stripping the car down and doing all the wires at the same time.
Thats pretty much what Im doing. going to bin all of the sound deadening and replace with with dynamat. hopefully new carpets etc etc etc. Its a case of, now its all out. Just do it.
you guys need a little (lighter gas) soldering iron then, just ordered myself one for my wiring
good luck!
Dropped him a message. Thanks bud
Im pretty sure its going to be the dealers for it. And no doubt I wont get any free lube to go with it
:(
bloody hell you're brave. fancy sorting mine out?
^ err...
all i can say is good luck and i hope i dont have EVER to strip that much out of my car. otherwise i'd be so daunted about putting it back together im sure i wouldnt bother :lipsrsealed: im a bit jealous that you have the balls to do that much work
all in the name of progress!
issue being I cant remember if it was like that when I took it off, ive only noticed since i put it back on. I would have thought it would need to be tought at the top? The engine hasnt been turned over since it came out the car working, so nothing should have moved...
i just want to make sure thats fine before i rebuild the whole thing to just find out that its going to implode on the start...
R32
hint ??
I no lol
Epic win mega epic win
I no lol
Epic win mega epic win
I was joking!

hah - no. Would be cool though, although I like having rear seats!
Soon find out. Just sorting a few things. Its going to be a handful
So your building a hybrid
So your building a hybrid
Haha - I like that! Not quite haha. Proven 280 BHP ;) Should pull a bit more with current set up.... should be a giggle! Looking to be on the road by end of November latest. I just need to get my engine bay finished up and preped for paint. Paint it my self then get it in around end of September time.
When's the next forum rolling road day?

Worth it bud - Ive not used it for anything productive yet, but being able to just blow sh!t off your working area is just better than having to wipe it off
The whole reason I got one is so I could do the paint in my engine bay my self. Even now though, Im still sending off for quotes for someone else to do it. haha.
I guess Im hoping for a quote to come back for literaly prep and paint under 500. I know it wont happen but if it does, I will jump at it I think.
Trouble is - im looking at the same sort of money to hire a trailer mate. by the the time you add petrol (it would be towed with a 3.5ltr shogun) so im really going to be looking at the same kind of money.
Il see what I can come up with. Got another guy coming to take a look at where the engine bay is on Friday or Saturday so Il see if he comes out cheaper. He is much much closer. I still have a little bit of welding to do, thats why I am trying to save my pennies a little as I need to get that finished up before I give it to any one to paint/paint it myself.
Thanks for the offer though mate. To be honest - If you could get the car over there and back again, Id GIVE you the compressor + cash haha!
Let me know mate. They would need the car for four days. so id need to drop it off, leave it for around a week maximum I would say, then pick it back up again to drop the SC VR in. This wouldn't be happening for about another month I would say. I need to raise the funds first.
haha
Cheers mate - possibly, thanks for that. You dont know of any one that can spray do you? Looking for some one that wouldn't mind spraying the bay up for my and doing some of the prep for it for a couple of hundred quid.
Really not much. Just welding back up two wholes that I made to run my loom through, plus a cock up I made (i welded up the throttle cable hole, not the clutch cable hole like a complete tool. So I need the whole made again for the throttle cable then the clutch hole welded up! Power steering bracket and that's about it. Really not much.
Will do. It's going to be a little different ;)
Not just that haha
thats a current vw colour no ?
thats a current vw colour no ?
It's not no. It's a limited edition colour run only for one year in 86
Lots of things Im gonna be doing once its been run for a few miles. namely lightened flywheel, smaller pulley etc etc
bumper is quick release yeah. Its going to be bit of a mash up between road and track use so this old mashed up bumper is staying on there incase i run into problems at the track or.....speed bumps.. haha
Still working on it mate hah, I got pulled away by clients so haven't got back to finish it yet. Looks like I just need to remove all the rad fan wiring and do some relocating of stuff then just wrap it enough to get it back in the suitcase with out it getting tangled. Then completely wrap it when I get home for saturday.
Got the engine fired tonight. Took a little bit of screwing about as I had just got hold of a new fuel pump, just a mk2 16v pump and I was convinced I needed to swap the polarity of the pump to get fuel to the rail.
Luckily before I tried cutting the wires and swapping them i thought id top the tank up with 5 lts of fuel from the gerry can. Funnily enough, the engine fired straight away and much face palming commenced!
All good either way - it meant i could whip the loom back out and finalise it all and I have literally just finished wrapping it all back up again.
Next major things on the list are to remove the hubs and have new bearings pressed in. Get the drive shafts in then the engine can stay in the car finally!
Still pushing for the end of Nov to have this ready by. Im hoping to be able to insure my daily for another year then have this as an absolute dry weather only use only during winter just so I don't feck the paint work (i've become quite fond of it ) and then back into full use when it dries up early next year.
You reserved a seat then?
Loads loads of people have seen me do that.
Just got back from a jaunt round the uk I the golf.
How does 160 miles to a full £65 tank sound?.....cruising speeds

Sounds like less than 20mpg
Such a nice car! really is one of the best 5 doors around  with your rain tray removed did you re-route any thing or does the water just go through the enine bay

You need to get a friend on the case to help with some decent drive by vids....
Ah, i spotted you too, yours looked good too.
Where a bouts are you then? I'm sure I've seen your car floating around quite a bit.
if the mk2 wasn't such a tin can shape and the engine has the power to do it, that gearing on my size tyres should see roughly 180 mph.
The issue is MAF placement. There is literally no where I can think I can route it for it to work and being honest, Matt has been next to useless in giving me any sort of idea how he would do it in a mk2 other than tell me he knows exactly what is needed in order for it to work. Helpful. Understand he is away though so might be just geting lost in email.
really, the standalone is a fix for not having to use a MAF. I just cant see how its going to work in just physical routing on the piping.
Id be up for that mate. Be good to give a kick to get yours finished haha. You need to get out driving!I no mate a 50 hour a week job and the workshop 3 kids and now im getting married theres just not enough hours in a day lol
Going to be sweat as when finished
Thanks mate.
Could do them for £125 collected but would need to know tomorrow since I will plan on having them returned on Monday.
btw: don't let DH see those buckets and harnesses.
Wow what a happy chappy you are.
Dude, lighten up. If you had that view about everything in life you wouldn't leave the house!
I'll be keeping them though. I fail to see how more contact/holding points on the body is worse than having a single strap diagonally over the body. Not to mention harnesses are mandatory for pretty much any FIA spec race series. Why are all the guys not in standard 3 point retractable seat belts? That's a serious question by the way...
And hey, I'm aimlessly going round this car with out a clue just bolting sh!t together, i'm cool with that. It's worked out so far
;)
This not an option if available in the UK?
http://www.sparcousa.com/product/harness-bar
If safety was of a concern, I'm not being funny but the mk2 golf is a car I would not get in at all...full stop.
What's wrong with the bar?

You've not seen my build thread then? :grin:What's wrong with the bar?
What part of 120cm sq of load-spreading mountings do you see in the pictures illustrating those bars?
Does it say 38mm dia tubing with 2.6mm wall thickness in the description?
The answer is no and I've seen pictures of them where they've failed in accidents. Golf2 also isn't listed in the cars it fits. Basically it's like applying a sticking plaster to a broken leg.
Went worthersee. In one word. Awesome. everyone must go.
Came back with this picture too. everyone who hasnt been, go. No excuses, no need to talk you into it. Just do it. You wont have any regrets...
