Thanks guys..

Dean, the bits we took from you are really what pulled it all together for us

The brakes are definitely lacking, but we don't want to have to switch to a 5 stud hub.  What is the easiest way to switch the rear to 4 stud calipers?

Mk2 golf rear axle there a bit shorter I think but there's a few about and that. Would look different with 4 stud but rear discs. You thought of uprating the servo to a gti one, it might give the breaks that thing you need bud

No but that's a good idea really.. Do the MK3 cabrio also have rear drums?  They're 4 stud too aren't they?

Umm I think so not really up on mk3s to mk2s but the 1.8 ventos still have drums so I would guess the cabrio's are the same mate.

Im saf the other co-owner of this little beauty. Appreciate all the comments guys.

Had the fan belt and tensioner changed today and she sounds sweeeeet .

The wifes are going to be well happy cos we've been missing for a month. It has been really hard work and it just cant be summed up in a few paragraphs. 4 weeks of constant graft. Theyre worried about me at work and I told em I got sleeping problems (only if they knew). Glad its come to this. Can get back to my normal life now.

Like Fahad said it was a poo box. My mate was going to scrap it. Rotten front wing, rust on rear arches and under doors, rear bumper hanging off. It really was a shed. Actually looked illegal. Had a shabby beige interior which hadnt been cleaned for years (looked as if my mate and his family had been living in it). Central locking and electric widows didnt work and the list just goes on and on. It all started when the coilovers touched base. Funny thing is I got a Chrysler Grand Vayager 04 plate as my main motor and we been using that to travel all over to bring bits back and we've ruined the interior. Makes no diffrence now cos Chrysler is number 2 now . So where does that put the wife :undecided:

It puts her where she belongs, in the kitchen

Dude you need to take some better snaps as the current ones aren't really doing it justice.

Also get that VR6 lip ordered asap, the front end is crying out for it.  I'm whipping out the ECU this weekend, I can't wait to tune it.

Ye im gonna order the vr6 lip asap. Once thats done we can take her to a nice location, undress her and....................................... take some pics

Just got off the fone to my wife. Told her she should stay at her mums for longer cos the tid isnt complete yet. Btw I think shes starting to dislike you.

Reminds me of the good old days. Its coming to 10 years since my first mk3 8v gti in magenta with matching recaro trim.

Fancy taking on the mk1 gti project

Wayne, thanks mate.  What exactly would we need to source to do the conversion?
