Well well. Exciting news.
I let a friend have a drive of the golf today and he was pretty impressed. He's a motorbike racer and a handy mechanic. We got chatting about warning the old girl up a bit and it's sounding promising.
He is keen to do some head work to my other engine. Depending on the type of head (he'd lost me a little here) we are either going to skim it or fit high compression pistons. Next will be a more suitable cam. Along with porting and polishing the head we should see a noticeable gain. This will be going on a lightened and balanced bottom end.
He also mentioned bike carbs. He says it's fairly easy power. He knows how to set them up and says the job could be done for 200 quid realistically.
I'm tempted but can't help but think about fuel economy. At least injection can be efficient when you are not booting it.
Plenty of time to mull things over.
