Alreet! Gateshead Calling! [Now With Added Pictures!]
« on: 13 September 2005, 09:54 »
Hi chaps. My name is Mike, I'm a mere 28 yrs old, and I have just bought a Mk 2 Golf Gti 16v love machine. As you might have guessed, I'm from the metropolitan hotbed of Northern culture that is Gateshead  Basically I know virtually nowt about the technical side of VW's but I'm bright enough to appreciate a fine motor car when I see one (hence the purchase). I'm really looking forward to working on my new pride and joy, and I figured the best place to look to absorb some wisdom and know-how would be a fine internet messageboard community such as this one. Anyway, enough chit-chat, and please be gentle with me when I post really ignorant sounding pleas for help and advice in the coming weeks

This is the only pic I have at the moment from my phone  :embarassed: gonna do a few with the camera later on.

Welcome Mike, nice standard looking motor you've got yerself there.
Is it just the lighting in the pic or hasn't the car got a sunroof???

No, that's right, there's no sunroof. Should there be?

It's unusual to see one without the sunroof Mike but I suppose you could specify not to have one fitted when new. Most mk2 gti's/drivers have a sliding steel sunroof as standard.
I guess in ebay terms that would make your motor "extremely rare" ;)

Phew. Was having horrible thoughts of being sold a cardboard and blu-tack Golf replica there. Incidentally the dapper looking torso with the rather fetching combination of blue and cream denim is me dad. I think at the point he was blowing through his teeth and pulling an expression of pained concentration in order to get the price down. Didn't work, like.

Picking it up tomorrow night (I think) as I'm still waiting for Norwich Union to deliver my insurance document so I can get the friggin thing taxed. Will double check for a concealed, stealth, sunroof then...
