I had my renewal through today for my Mk 7 Ed40 from a reputable insurance company. No change in my claims or convictions with 20+ years Ncb, the renewal is up 73%.

An hour later on the phone and various comparison sites the best I can find for a comparable policy is up 57% from last year!

Plenty have written about it in the press.

Its insane and not actually supported by any figures around damage repair costs and thefts increasing.

Just legalised robbery and cartel operators in the insurance industry.

Mine’s gone up from around £200 a year a couple years ago to getting quotes of around a grand. Managed to get some no mark insurer to get it to £500 ish.

I think part of the reason seems to be the industry standard now is to write a car off if it’s got anything more than a seagull sh!t on the roof. Where’s Martin Lewis when you need him… ?

He is the seagull sh!t

Seriously, Insurance is now mental, I paid £260 last year, same broker quoted £840 for renewal and cheapest I could get was with Marshmallow (?) at £570 earlier this week - bummer.

Similar story for me. Renewal quote with the AA was nearly 600 something- almost double last year.

They very easily knocked it down to £440 - to nearly price match best quotes on a comparison site.

It’s the first time I’ve seen a big hike in premiums in 30 years of insuring cars.

Similar situation here in Jersey, for the last few years I’d been paying £180ish fully comp for myself and the wife as a named driver, the renewal came in at £360

Called around several local brokers and managed to get £270.

Seems it is the economic climate and people making more claims that has driven premiums up

I think mental amount of Range Rover thefts have a lot to do with this everyone else has to pay for them being to tight to pay 600 quid for decent extra security!

Just renewed mine this week - 10% increase over last year but age now plays a large part of my risk.
Mk6 GTI Carbon Grey, 2010 Bluetooth and voice fitted, a few VCDS mods still a comfortable family car. Red Scirocco 2011 twin charger stage 1 - enjoyable drive now gone.  White 2016 Polo GTI (roller skate on steroids) replaced with an Indium Grey 2019 7.5 GTI PP.
