Hey guys.
For a while there have been a few spotted threads on forums including Ed38, and a lot of people (certainly on Ed 38 ) saying that they cant tell if someone's a dubber or not when driving past each other.
well....
I came up with a simple solution, a sticker, that marks you out as a "dubber" without any allegiance to any club or specific forum. it just shows your part of the massive on line community.
The idea is like the CGTI stickers back in the day. they'll be easy to recognize by people in the know.

Does sound like a good idea because apart from mk1s and other mk1 cabs the rest of you are a right set of miserable b'stards ! :laugh: :laugh: I don't bother acknowledging anyone else these days to be honest. :undecided: When I'm in my camper though other campers/buses always acknowledge. :afro:

In the Van I get waves from all sorts, in the GTi I get a sort of nod from some other Gti drivers and a few waves from vans and beetles.
I like the sticker idea!

i think its a bit bollox to be honest. in theory its a good idea but 'back in the day' club gti was the only club around. now with the whole internet community thing i can't see it having the same effect. i wave at loads of other vw's or give them a flash/toot of the horn etc. especially if they have a 'modified' one as chances are they are 'into the scene'.
on the way to jv's on friday i had a lupo give me the flash thumbs up etc on the m25 which was cool. the fact that we were both in nice vw's was all it took... not a sticker.
also gibby on the way to e38 last year, it being the same weekend as the vw action one, i beeped and waved at loads of aircooled vw's and they all looked at me like i was some chavvy boy racer! :laugh:
it is a good idea but at the end of the day if you're flying down the road would you notice a sticker? if you're driving around slowly or sitting in traffic then it should be obvious if you're a vw entheusiast rather than 'just another owner'.
also like jv said all it would take is someone to start a forum to connect all these sticker owning people and all of a sudden its another club/forum/community. also who will make these stickers? does that mean they are in charge?
at the risk of being a grumpy old man (i'm thinking of trademarking that) too many variables to make it work. for starters all the people who don't like the 'winning' design will be pissed that theirs didn't make it!

I'm not saying that air-cooled will acknowledge water cooled because if you go on the air-cooled forums some of them do think that we're all turbos, loud music and chavvy hats, but at the end of the day that's their ignorance. If you look at my post I said that apart from mk1s I don't get any acknowledgments but I meant from other marques, i.e. water to water where as in my van I always get acknowledged by other campers/beetles etc so air to air ! You muppet ! :wink:

Oh yeah, Golfchicks reply doesn't make sense though does it, because just because you drive a VW it doesn't mean you go to meets, shows and are into it does it. :undecided:

I think the idea is a good one as being someone who, although having been in to VWs since the early 80's, has only recently had the time to get involved in the Dub community but I have found that some groups/ clubs / forums seem to be a bit clicky ( or is it Cleaky ) and seem to ignore newer members. :huh:
I do try to acknowledge other Dubs etc but very rarely get any response ( maybe that's becuse it's me :laugh: ) .ÂÂÂ
Also some Dubbers have standard looking cars/vans so it's not always obvious that they are enthusiasts . :undecided:
This could help to include rather that exclude.

I'm still not having one of their stickers on my car though no matter which design they pick ! I made an exception for a GolfGTI.co.uk stickers and that's it. :grin:

gib i wasn't having a go ;) and i know whats being said about being clicky.... i've been looking on other forums about the leeds show and there is not a single photo of any of our cars!
all i'm saying is i just think it will lead to some sort of other snobbery and clickyness

As for pics on other forums, I've not found any either, if you do let me know. I guess there may be some on the official VW festival website when they get them sorted. Yours and Tesh's need to be on there as they looked sweet. :cool:

i dont have any stickers except an autolock one which will be going!
i may make an exception for the golfgti ones on a cab.. but i think we shud stick with our ones, if i see a sticker for another club it wouldnt giveme a reason not to wave, if u can see a communal sticker then surely you'll see another club sticker... i have no problem with waving to another dubber - even if they have another lcubs sticker.. so why do we need a communal sticker?
just wave - if they dont wave back their miserable gits! plus mines pretty standard so you duno if im an enhusiast or a young student in a cheap ass car!

I never get waved at! and the front of my car is the most changed bit!
So where is the sticker supposed to go? 20 feet in front so they got some warning?
Only stickers on my car is SAS (surfers against sewage) coz its something I really believe in and dont wanna detract from that!

i think thats the best thing you've ever said!! and its kind of the point i'm trying to make. in principle i like the idea but any sticker or symbol of your interest should be good enough.

I never used to get the wave, People would assume i was just some random Boy racer that happened to have good taist in a project car. Then when i built the GTI i kept the Round headlights, got a debadged grill and removed the front numberplate and now ever Modified Veedub that comes round my way gives me a flash and a wave :cool:
I find i get no love from the Aircooled lot, Especially beetle owners. I guess all that Rust makes them Cranky?

A lot of the aircooled lot just look at the watercooled lot as CHav's, things are a changing though, I'm finding I get more recognition from aircooleds in the Gti than ever before.

you know those kids you see hanging round wearing alot of black, sweat bands, rucksaks with tipex all over them and hair over their eyes, different to goths but not quite skater kids.... emo! short for 'emotional' because no-one understands them and life is so hard when you're 14 and their music is so deep and everyone hates them because their individual even though they are carbon copies of each other and life just scks and that makes them cry and its just so unfair that no-one see's just how beautifull the world is even dead things and then they cry a bit more and self harm because their mates do and blah blah blah get over it!

Tell you a funny tail, there were some kids, goths and/or emo's hanging around the corn exchange (trendy shop place) in Leeds and they were having a demonstration about ASBO's ! Anyway, they had placards and were singing stuff like "Say no to ASBO" and "Being young is not a crime !" I mean, WTF ! :laugh: These kids don't get in trouble and their parents are all rich as fcuk ! : Oh yeah, and you don't get an ASBO for being young, you get one for being an annoying/thieving/cheeky little scumbag ! :laugh:

the only peeps i know that europe wide nod/wave are aircooled dubbers, and motorbikers..
yeah the scene has grown ten fold even over the years ive been into em but.... iive been looked at like a twit when ive flashed beeped another gti owner over the years.... (waiting for comments... lol)
so i dunno... i dont think it will work... remember when people were trying to signal each other about speed cams.... that didnt last long...

So because I have that new fangled "water stuff" cooling my engine and they have a hairdryer or something heating it up so it breaks down in traffic, You don't wave at me and call me a kettle. This from the man in a v6 barge!! ;)
I go to a few VW shows with a mainly aircooled lot and get it all the time!

unless peeps dont know what there driving and you flash/wave/beep etc at them they just think that your sum you chaved up w@nker.....

I always flash my lights or wave to other dubbers, mainly Mark 1 or Mark 2 GTI's, and some mark 3's. However 4 and 5's dont really know what they are driving tbh. I dont always get a response but sometimes I do.
I find that when I am in the golf and I wave to scirocco owners they dont tend to respond either as they dont like golf or golf owners, or at least thats the vibe I have got from scirocco owners.
I dont wave to aircooled as I know I am not going to get a response, if they waved to me I would be only too happy to respond

Think Joes point is pretty spot on (his first one, although I laughed out loud at that lawnmower pic!). If you do get a sticker like that out, then it'll just create a community of people who have thos stickers on their cars.
Plus there was only one design I even remotely liked and it got thrashed!!
In general I wave to any other dubber I see if they look like theyre in 'the scene', although I often see people wave at me just after I've driven past them, so everyone probably thinks I'm a miserable b@stard!!!
I generally get waves off of aircooled and watercooled alike. I'm pretty much the solo watercooled member of a local aircooled club, but theyre all cool with that! Also when I dorve a scirocco I did find them to be a bit clicky, got waves off of every scirocco I passed! Found anyone in a dub seemed to wave at the scirocco.
Have never had as many waves as when I drove the Beetle tho!
