Flagged up clutch position sensor and kicked into limp mode. Only did it once and hasn't logged it again but the trustworthy vw tech I use said it will be the mech unit and quoted £2300 with a gearbox oil change

Ohh, that's not good news, just approaching that mileage myself also full VW history and in the last year of the all-in warranty.
I was looking forward to getting significantly more miles than that before it needed any attention.
