My diamond black 1997 Golf GTI 16v Anniversary
« on: 05 April 2012, 20:47 »
Here is my GTI- Bought this just before Christmas on 90k miles and have done a bit of work on it to get it to how it looks now, lovely car to drive and was always a dream car of mine- I was 13 when this car was new!
- Weitec hicon GT coilovers lowered 40mm
- OEM VW anniversary exhaust system
- detailing work by Prestige Detail in Luton
- BBS alloys refurbed

How the car looked when I bought it:

Aftermarket Supersprint system replaced with OEM exhaust, as I do a lot of motorway driving and the droning was giving me a headache

Paintwork was seriously tree sap stained and in some need by serious TLC. Car was detailed by Prestige Detail in Luton who did an excellent job IMO

BBS alloys were shot to bits- but now given a full refurb in bright silver- next job is to repaint the brake calipers red.

Interior-

Looking good matey. Just looks like you need those sides doing. Easy fix but new ones do cost about 30 quid each from vw.

Cheers- do you mean the plastic coating on the lower door sills? are these one piece?  Looking forward to checking out the rest of the forum for some tips, namely painting the calipers and changing discs/pads which I hope isn't too difficult.

Looks really clean :afro:

Top sill trims are available from VW, painting calipers is easy Hammerite will do the trick.

I like it, looks pretty straight and good to see a lack of cheap tacky crap attached.
As mentioned, get those upper sill trims replaced before they completely crumble away.

Very nice anni.
Did you have issues putting the red stripe on?
Ive still got to put mine on.
If i was you, i'd replace the 16v badge with the original and repaint the calipers.
Thats it ;)

There is a thread on here that debates whether the 16v Anni had the Red GTI badge on the grille or the Red 16v Badge. It turns out one lad on here has had his from new and it came with the Red 16v Badge so the one on this car is standard.  Personally I think the Red GTI badge looks better but if the car is to be kept standard(ish) then the 16v badge is the one
