Hello everyone,
Picked up an '08 GTi on Monday and I'm thrilled with it....
It's been a hell of a long time but I did own a GTi in the past, way back in 1985.... it was and '83 'A' plate that I bought of Quentin Willson (before TV fame) when he live in Thurnby (Leicester)
a White 3 door that he'd somehow picked up from Ireland with the number plate EXI76, he informed me was his wife's run about! In fairness it's wasn't the best, it had some evidence of accident damage but at aged 19 I loved it and willingly cut my teeth in the hot hatch world. I kept it a year selling it for £3900 - £100 less than I'd paid for it, but I kept the number! LOL
I've had plenty of cars since (as you'd imagine), some highs and some lows, but always enjoyed my motors. Lows were collecting points age 23 while I seemed hell bent on throwing a Renault 5 Turbo off the road at every opportunity (or was it the Renault throwing me off the road.... I can never remember)! High was probably my Honda S2000, although for simple driving pleasure I'd be hard pushed to better a Clio Williams 1 and a couple of Clio 182's I had! Other motors include Skyline R33 GTSt (that I imported myself), '87 Escort RS turbo, '92 Clio 16v, '92 Prelude 2.2, '99 Prelude Motegi, Clio 172, '07 Nissan Navara, and a lot of others not worth mentioning.
At the moment as well as the Golf I have a '98 Honda Integra Type R, a lovely low mileage example that I always promised myself but is now unfortunately for sale, and a Westfield SEw that I have raced for the past 5 years and (although I've not raced this year due to wedding costs) I will be out at Rockingham on the 11th of September.
So that's a little introduction, a bit of my motoring past! I'm just getting to know my new golf but I'm loving my new experience of this thing you call Torque. LOL I'm good friends with the guys at Nothampton Motorsport and I know the MD (Troy) has his MK5 GTi Revo'd..... It's very tempting but I think I'll spend a bit more time getting to know my car unadulterated!!
Look forward to getting to know some of you guys.... All the best....
Simon
