had mk1 gti 5 years now brought wiv engine in boot etc built back up at very slow pace,gonna try turn over at weekend any 1 got any pointers that might aid it firing etc took fuel pump under car and sprayed etc clean tank ,any advise welcome cheers

Dissconnect the coil lead and crank it over for a short while to build oil pressure.

Drain the tank and refill with fresh fuel plus a new filter, if it will not start your looking at blocked injectors or metering head.
