Agree with Adam, probably a A3 from a Audi as the block height is the same as as a 1800. The 2ltr from the mk3 is a "tall block" and there is clearance issues with the bonnet and the exhaust down pipe will have to be modified to account for the extra height.

Thanks alot for that.. Have just had to buy headgasket as it flippin went! Got that from volkspares (with some new bolts).. The guy I'm getting to fit it works for VW but wants to just check I got all I need for it!

(am quite pleased!!!)

The head is off... I had the right head gasket.. Jus gotta get some new bits and pieces and the beast will be back on the road tomorrow night!!!!

Turns out it was a mk3 8v engine.. Looked at the old gasket..  Was proper F*CKED. Hopefully answers my question as to why it wasn't pulling as nicely as it should.. Was a bit of a state under there!

Am counting down the minutes til tomorrow night!!

ARRRGH!!! SO CHUFFED!
