« on: 28 November 2022, 21:05 »
just bought my 2018 GTD Golf and noticed that the seat bolster has collapsed on the driver's seat, has anyone else experienced this and if so howd you get it fixed/sorted ?  thanks

I had the same issue on my 67 plate GTD and it is not an uncommon issue.
I was fortunate enough to get it fixed under warranty even though it did take some doing they eventually agreed to have it done and they replaced the bolster.

I’d suggest finding a good specialist car upholstery trimmer in your area - they should be able to sort it for you.

Once fixed, try to avoid putting weight on the seat bolster when getting in and out of the seat; I do this and have done in all the cars I’ve owned with sports style bolstered seats and have never had an issue with the bolsters collapsing or premature wear of the upholstery on the bolsters.

I found these guys when looking, just in case I ever needed a repair on my CS buckets.

Or you could buy the seat foam from VW and have a go fitting it, I did my MK 2 GTI many years ago.

i rang my local VW dealer - they estimated £417.90 to rectify the seat (£189.90 just for the foam and 2-3hrs labour) i have searched for local upholsterers but not had much joy, do u know of any local ones in cardiff ? cheers

Buying a new foam base isn't going to rectify it long term, as there's a long history of them failing. You'd be better off getting an upholsterer to carve a new foam bolster section for the seat.
