Mine's also '93. Just over 90k on the clock.

Full SH. Lovely car and going to keep her for some time yet.
What suspension work did you have done?  Mine's still good on the suspension and the DCC continues to work faultlessly.

I'd like to hear from anybody running Conti SC 7's - they seem to come top of many tyre reviews for overall performance and yet not many are running them - only asking as they could be on my list for next time.

I went with GY 6 on mine as there was a good dea at the timel. I considered the Conti 7, of the many posirive reviews I read, the biggest "real world" issue seemed to be quite a high wear rate compared to it's peers?

An impressive ownership history, it's good to have a car you know well.
I intend to keep mine as I can't think of anything I would prefer as a sensible car.

One question on the suspension, I see you have DCC, how did that fair over 100k miles, did you replace the shocks when you overhauled the suspension?

I’ve just had a set of 4 Michelin PS5s fitted on my GTI performance and I’m really pleased with them. They are not too noisy and the grip is really good. When I got the car in December it had mid range tyres called Lauffen (never heard of them either) which I was going to keep but a pothole put pay to that so I changed all of them.

The PS5s are night and day in comparison. Wet grip and damp traction is great and they have a good rim protector for the alloys. On my old Leon FR I had PS4S (sport) and they were equally impressive, the lateral grip was superb but the car didn’t have the same power so hard to compare the power transfer directly.
I got a discount for 4 at kwik fit but the PS4S would have been a lot more expensive so I went for the PS5.

I’ve had Pirelli Pzero Neros before on a scooby and they were brilliant.

The only tyres I’ve really not liked were Good Year Asymetric 3 as I found the sidewall too soft and they seemed to roll too much.

103 k.

Full VW service history.
Had it since new (July  13) and intend to keep it as long as I can. Still love this car to bits.
New suspension recently otherwise perfect.

Anyone with higher mileage?

Oh, and unless absolutely necessary, don’t sell the Ed40, you’ll regret it.

Wise words Exonian! I am tempted to keep it but not sure I can justify running two golfs but at least the ED40 will not depreciate at that high a rate.

The car (Lapiz Blue) looked stunning when I picked it up but a wet drive changed that but hopefully I’ll get some pics up soon.

Golf mk8 / Re: Is the hot hatch dead?
« Last post by Yusee on 27 March 2024, 19:38 »
I have followed the ICE discussions with interest over the last few years and have acquired a small collection of enjoyable, engaging everyday transport vehicles - 2 hot hatches and 2 motorbikes- in anticipation of the end of ICE.

I’ve got a slight suspicion that things will move more slowly than expected.

The ban( on new vehicles) has already moved to 2035, I wouldn’t be surprised if this moves further.

My hope is that, the hot hatch will make a resurgence- as it did in the 90s after insurance companies killed it.
