not been around for a while
got a small update nothing major as I still dont have the car back

the car is currently in my cousins bodyshop getting a smooth engine bay and
a hell of a lot of bits and pieces i want doing been in there around 4 month now
not a rush job so he does it when he can

as for the engine I had to shell out for another lump as mine was finished
it turned out when i got it stripped they was a manifold bolt in the cylinder
and it had wrecked my piston and the cylinder head looks screwed
and it was not down to me a garage did a headgasket for me before i went to harewood house

here is a couple of pics of the damage you can see where the bolt was smashing away
funny thing is engine was smooth and very quiet

I bought another lump for 300 had it at a garage all checked out
seemed ok had all the new chains tensioners rails swapped over from my old lump
as they were 2 weeks old had the cams reprofiled ot 263 and lightened flywheel
got the engine back got to work on the painting side of things went tp town with the hammerite

went off the idea of the red end so i changed it

got a 6 branch to slap on might buy a metal crack pipe when i source some
few more bits and pieces to paint will be a nightmare to keep clean

got these goodies to put on when its back from the bodyshop

finally sold my alloys picked these babys up few weeks ago
5x100 16" borbet A always wanted a set of these 3 weeks old
not a mark on them with a nice stretch on the tyre not ott

well i got a few bits painted yesterday and today just need a couple of coats to tidy it up

had a go at the sump to neaten that up a little bit and the pulley also

alternator got neatened up i wanted to split it in half to paint but i snapped a screw trying
to get it to bits so i left it and did it in 1 piece

this was a nightmare I painted it then i knocked it off the bench and it landed into
a pile of sawdust so it looks a bit shabby i need to do this again see how it drys

did a test paint with this needs another going over

another shot of the engine

mounting was treated to a coat of paint

this is what i snapped i thought i had a spare but i dont

heres the bolt that caused all my troubles with the old engine

thats it for now i never had chance to put them back onto the engine the sawdust incident
delayed me maybe this week if i get chance

well I started pieceing the engine together today
on hold again now though i forgot to buy new o rings for the crack pipe
and the oil filter housing as they are goosed so I did what i can breaking up the white abit now
by putting the black bits on few matt black bits but they aint on just yet
becoming a nightmare to keep clean and it aint even running yet lol

heres couple of pics of the engine now see what you think

should be even better monday if the vw place has the o rings and also if i find these gearbox bolts

not posted for a long time so this is a little out of date car does nto work though so its not that far out of date

engine built up few bits to add on

cant wait to get cracking luckily i have a long weekend might be able to get a good bit done
looks fantastic only thing i need to do is get the us spec spoiler to sit better as the ends stick out slightly
small cod eye on the roof but i think they can be polished out can hardly tell

i get the doors and wings as and when i need them better doing the car like this so i dont scratch
anything easier to get the wiring done to :?

had the edge of the rear window and spoiler painted shiny black instead of matt like last time
also de-seamed under the rear lights

heres the bay

this is the spoiler i will whip it off try make it fit little better not sure where to run the wiring
for the brake light

thats all for now did not have time to take any pics outside was starting to rain a little bit

subframe painted up and fitted

took a couple of pictures today slowly getting into the swing of things again

had to take a couple of tablets as the dust has wrecked me started piecing it together
from the rear now just to do something different and not get as dirty
boot was pitted with dust from the bodyshop

got it looking slightly better

heaters are in had to modify them slightly to fit as the intake pipe from the engine bay
was in the way

short shift fitted

forgot my strut brace was not bolted down i leaned on it and it fell off

got this problem to take on not sure whats wrong it wont shut properly I have bought a new
seal see if that fixes it as mine has seen better days

thats it today should have the rear seats in and rear panels in tomorrow to free up some space in the garage im doing it all the wrong way round but I aint done the brake pipes yet waiting for a friend to come and do them for me as he has the flaring tools

WAIT FOR IT

engine is ready to go in!!! weyhey
my mate has been round today helping to finish the brake pipes off
they are all plumbed in now just need tidying up and securing down in places

next sunday the engine is getting popped in if the weathers nice and all the front end on
going to get a full day on it then it should be plain sailing from there
not happy with my calipers so i am either buying new ones or buying a sand blaster for them

heres a few pictures of the pipes runs up the drivers side and pops out above the rear axle
through some gromets that were already there

best progress happened today in my eyes looks like I am getting somewhere
started half 10 this morning engines in I have one issue with the steering rack
knocking bad i think i have put the wrong bolt in joining the rack to the column
so I need a bolt if anyone has one

lost a few bolts here and there i need to replace but the bulk is done
not sure where to mount the power steering bottle and the header tank

anyway heres some pictures let me know your views on it

need to raise the car up slightly rubbing on the rear
