StuDubs - mk2 8v "ebay special racer"
« on: 20 January 2005, 17:13 »
background:
 1988 , MK2 8v in Helios blue
 ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ?Car as bought a nice clean(ish) mk2 8v , having owned a mk1 a long while ago and foolishly tradeing it in for an RS turbo , (i was 18) , ive been after another one , with mk1 prices climbing i spotted this one on Ebay , local to me for ?275 Bargain , i was in work the day i agreed to pick it up , so i sent 2 mates to get it with the instuctions "if it looks streight get it" so i come back from work n there it is in all it glory, soon as i got home i was in it an remembering why i missed my mk1 so much , The car was in posesion for all of 2 days before i started on it . the interior came out , when i say that i mean the interior. Dash , headlineing , carpets , seats , door cars. Everything, The bodykit came off at the same time , there were some horrors that lay beneath , looks like ill be needing some repair sections. Beacause i live in halls of residence i had to lug all this stuff up 8 flights of stairs(well the lift did) . A"mate" of mine borrowed the golf over xmas because i stayed here(swansea) until xmas eve,
 ?On his way down the motorway the wheel came loose , 2 studs had sheered , as he gets out the car he kicks the passanger side front , denting my pristean wing. ?:angry: a replacement is on order ,

 My plans for the car are very simple , have fun with it and get the nurbergring durin my summmer break.
 Beacause im here i dont have a garage , much money , and ive got huge drains on my time. ?this means all my work will be done outside (only thing thats getting done elsewhere is the cage cant scrimp n save when my neck is involved) ive got a seat on order from demon tweeks , again thats to do with safety, everything else will be bought second hand from scrap yards , auto jumbles or as cheaply as i can from Ebay, (the route of all evil)
The car will be getting a full respray as soon as the bodywork is done , my little brother is an apprentise panel beater n his collage does re-sprays for cost if you let the kids work on it ?:undecided: but ill have to get it back to my place in Widnes nr cheshire to do that. Another adventure i suppose.

the car is getting built to compeate with a nissan 200sx and a ford crapi with a rover V8 in it ,

 So if anyones got any tips for making my golf a missile then they would be apreciated ?, ?oh n the wheels are for sale tatty but goin cheap

Well i got myself a jigsaw ?:evil:, nice cordless one for 30 quid from BnQ warehouse , 18v too , i set too the inside of the car , as you can see its a bit lightweight , next on the shopping list is some pollycarbonate so i do my windows ,and some flat aluminium so i can plug the hold in the roof , theres a group of us that want to go the `ring over the easter break :grin: , the last weekend has been pencelled in , better get cracking. so far ive cut most the internal panels out and managed to remove the sunfoor , about to cut out the second skin and the rear seat mount. then ive got to try and sell some stuff so i can get the arches done . luckily ive had a few Dry days , oh and ive been given an 8v engine FOC by a mate and theres a set of G60 brakes on ebay ending sometime that are very reasonably prices :huh:, whatch this space ?

Got up this mornin and someone that can only be described as a C**T has tried breaking into my car, not by goin through the binbags i have for windows , but by hitting or crow-barring where the badge used to be , this means that there is something extra to fix on my car ?aswell as taking my time away from somethionf else i could be doing, weve got security cameras where my car is parked so ill find out who it is and deal with them , in my own personal friendly kind of way ?:angry:

Severe lack of funds is stopping me doin anythin to the car at the moment tho i have managed to strip the wishbones and struts from the car also front and rear brakes , got lecures today from 11-1 then im on a welding (learning how to TIG) course from 3-7 , so itll be dark then doesnt look like there will be much done today , plus ive got an engineering science assignment due in on friday which so far ive neglected.  :shocked:

 " they say theres no rest for the wicked" " if id known there would this little rest id have behaved myself more :evil:"

Can it get any worse ??????
« Reply #8 on: 16 March 2005, 12:01 »
Well ive ben kinda busy sorting out a few bits an pieces, still not finished the windows or plugged up the roof so the interior of my car is a wee bit damp , on a plus side ive moved my switches n loom to the door so when the door cards are made i will be able to reach the switches i relised when trial locating my seat , that i wont be able to reach them , all the way up front so i came up with a solution , hopefully i can get the windows and other panels in so the car is at least water tight , after that i need some new discs to match the calipers ive got and some new ones for the rear , then its onto suspension . looking for an 80mm drop on 15s so it should be quite low. at the moment the car i think is at its lowest eb , from here on in it can only get better , i hope , thats all for now when it stops raining ill be back outside trying to get it done , a week in germany at the ring beckons the last week of my summer break? :evil:

 wires re-routed to door

 when i first started my car i mentioned a 200sx , well this is what happens when you give quick-ish RWD cars to kids

my lovely seat that im cross using as an arm chair

« Reply #9 on: 04 April 2005, 03:50 »
Well here y latest update , not much to report in the way of work done to the car , as yet , i just seem to be buying parts , i think ive been set a challenge by Dinx and Andyfitz , to get the car done for inters 4 WEEKS AWAY , easy , not a problem ahem ,  i must be mad , anyway , ive just won a set of AVO coil over off ebay 88.51 , can it get any better ??? so i though id give a running total so far, here goes (all prices around the guestimate area)

Car = 275
seat=175
calipers=41
lightened flywheels=46
coil overs=89
perspex for windows 80

So far costs in at a HUGE 754 pounds , thecage should be here after a couple more weeks work and my old man has a few contacts in the trade that deal with polyflex the bushes people , then there are the issues with an MOT that ive priced up in partrs at 98 , and then theres forgetting tyres for the thing , im still looking at dropping under £1300 and still having it ready (probably not painted) for inters at the start of may , I want a pint off everyone if i pull thos one off  :evil:
