cant wait to get cracking luckily i have a long weekend might be able to get a good bit done
looks fantastic only thing i need to do is get the us spec spoiler to sit better as the ends stick out slightly

i get the doors and wings as and when i need them better doing the car like this so i dont scratch
anything easier to get the wiring done to :?

had the edge of the rear window and spoiler painted shiny black instead of matt like last time
also de-seamed under the rear lights

whats the polished pipe at the top right of the bay for?
Title: Re: got my golf back
Post by: VR6_ROB on 27 August 2009, 20:23
heater intake used to be a sort of mesh grill before because its de scuttled i don't want engine fumes coming inside the car
so the pipe runs down the inner wing to close for comfort with the bonnet hinge though might just get away with it

small update

been away from my project for a while got a extra member to the family so i been busy with her

had a nightmare day today but things are starting to come together slowy

a mate came down to help me with the brake pipes got one side done
I am trying to run them through the car i did pretty good in the engine bay they just
need to be a little more tidy not got the clips for the braided sleeve yet got a few jubilee
clips for now so they look a little rough

this is where they come through they clear the pedals all the insulation to go over the top yet
so no chanceof them been crushed

ran it through the chassis leg pretty neat just got to secure the grommets and put some
protection on the pipe

got my manifold back just waiting for the matching rocker top

got my wings back and painted slam panel had a little play about with them

oh yeah i got the doors back NEVER put porshce 944 handles on they are a right arse on to fit
looks like i need to cut part of the door having second thoughts about fitting them now

thats it for this week

engine is ready to go in!!! weyhey
my mate has been round today helping to finish the brake pipes off
they are all plumbed in now just need tidying up and securing down in places

next sunday the engine is getting popped in if the weathers nice and all the front end on
going to get a full day on it then it should be plain sailing from there
not happy with my calipers so i am either buying new ones or buying a sand blaster for them

heres a few pictures of the pipes runs up the drivers side and pops out above the rear axle
through some gromets that were already there

fitted my freshly powder coated subframe managed to get the fans mounted to the radiator and got my rear engine mount fitted

just need to mount the bottle somewhere trying to make something up to fix to the radiator

took the alternator off as it does not move seems jammed also removed the lower inlet some paint in it
and the injectors wont fit so needs sanding down at work tomorrow

sorted the gear linkage got it bolted back on gears are very hard to find though needs setting up
exhaust is on but its not right fix that at a later date

did a little bit more painting on the head

just waiting for the uj joint so i can get the steering back on track
and a couple of engine bits that are getitng painted so i can bolt the inlet back on

I unscrewed the brackets and moved them along then i just used cable ties put them through the
holes on the clocks and round the brackets positioned them infront of the bracket rather then in it
sits closer to the dash then

pretty much as ive done mine, but with the mk3 clocks being bigger than the mk2 originals you struggle to see the temp/fuel gauges, indicator/full beam warning lights and the row of warning lights at the bottom of the clocks

i wonder if corrado clocks fit better?

looking tidy, where have you hidden the engine loom etc? ive been out tidying my engine bay as much of the loom was exposed, and grommets/bungs missing around the scuttle tray

Got some colour coded ducting for the looms, looks tidier but not as nice as yours :afro: you should be proud!

its mainly running through the chassis legs

the wiring for the water level warning light and brake fluid have been deleted to make it neater

Out of interest how did you keep the sticker on the slam panel when painting it white, is it a repro or did you mask it off and lacquer over the top of it?

Still can't believe how cool that bay is.

probably want to move that to inside. I assume you dont have much interior inside at the moment. Its best to do it now, than have it snag on some thing later and have to rip it all out again

Glad to see its coming together

If I had to pick at anything (cos I'm like that, I'm the jealous sort), I'd remark that the slam panel would look nicer satin black rather than white. Mine was orange and it annoyed me as you could see it behind the grill, so I changed it

been on the road 2 weeks now hit my first snags

distributor has snapped all its wires inside so the power aint there £350 for a new one but managed to bag one for £60
inner c.v boot has exploded somehow so its going off the road tomorrow for the weekend to get a few jobs done and check everything is still tight and give it a good clean

all thats left to do is the headlining bit of re-trimming here and there
get the exhaust sorted
get a intake pipe made up and a new airfilter

nuts, what a sh!tter.

Best of luck getting it sorted, at least it looks to be a simple repair. Looks great other than that

Fifft make some nice smoked front indicators - you can tell they are orange in certain light so don't look OTT. Set on mine:

yeah bad times i got made redundant the company relocated. only issue i have is when i took the vr loom out they was a couple of wires joined into the light loom i had to cut them. also i have no holes in the bulkhead i am feeding them through the chassis legs which does not fit lol
