Title: 1/4 mile!
Post by: Toby on 12 March 2012, 13:28
if found some Avon ZZ-R track day tyres  255/40/17's  for a spare set of alloy's iv got but i have 2 245/40/17's to go on the rar ( same alloy's)

would this matter? also would having them tyres get me any better times than using 18" road tyre's?

thank's

Sticky tyres will certainly help you get away faster.

Different size tyres won't matter as you're 2WD.  On a 1/4 mile as long as the non-driven wheels have sound tyres on them they're just following the rest of your car around.  Should be fine with the sticky boots on the front.

You'd be better off finding some part-worn slicks and there's some stuff you can apply that freshens them up. Can't remember the name of it right now.

Part-worn slicks will almost definitely be a LOT cheaper!

although they are circuit slicks, same problem as the R888's you cannot get enough heat into them, even with a long ass burnout, the profile of the tyre is not gonna help you either, what you want is a fat tyre thats gonna crinkle when you let the pressure down,  have you fitted some over size brakes or can you go to a smaller wheel,

you want    to order yourself  some super soft tarmack rallye tyers     idealy part worns then dose them with rubber softener repeatedly

* you may well snap a driveshaft tho as they don't really do spinning

nobing about with some of the blokes i work with we've managed to  brake shafts in some very intresting ways.

allways take up the slack before lanuching.  but still managed to bust viryualy every part of the drivetrain at some point with supersofts.

even managed to twist a shaft
