Just to add more fuel to the heat soak fire:

On a turbo car, heat soak is less important than restriction to flow.

The air is heated when it goes through the turbo anyway, and the intercooler reduces the inlet temperatures from there.

Having a massive filter means no restriction to air flow. If the filter was tiny but completely isolated from hot air, you'd lose tonnes of power compared to a big filter with some hot air.

Very good point.... hence the need for an intercooler.

And intercoolers are really called after coolers as they cool the air after the turbo. I could dig out the math equations about intake temp, under bonnet temp and the new ambient temperature after the IC but I CBA.

Also wheres the guy moaning about the 1-2bhp, remember cold days are a bit like a dyno lottery, to many factors from humidity, time of year, temp, altitude, how many mag pies present etc... You can always diet and become a deprived hungry human, that will gain you some power to weight ratio.

Also he could just put some foam between the battery to stop and conducting heat. But I hardly imagine its an issue with a FMIC present in front of the aircon/rad fans, which is always a benefit and the corner of the car being relatively high pressure means very little heat will conduct.

agree and im more than happy with my set up

Very Very good point RE heat and intercoolers and size of the airfilter

the induction kit is HUGE!!! i also have a samco Silicone TIP so restriction is minimal

to answer bellend, im not failing, im winning, when was the last time i did things to my car just to please anyone but myself

in other words - If i dont like it, i wont do it.

however i always like to listen to peoples ideas because i find it interesting, so i try encourage this :smiley:

@ thai-wronghorse - bloody stupid aint it hahaha, what more can you do apoart from pop the filter on the roof like i said before...   people worry too much about stuff that is not such a issue.. thats the interweb for you i guess  :grin:


right next up is whole new cambelt set up and waterpump

Its looking like the car will be off the road again in the next couple of weeks...

My mate with the bodyshop just called me and wants to re paint the whole car, and he wants to do it soon as possible so my car is ready for some shows.. who am i to argue  :cool:

id never change the colour.. everyone knows the flat back is the best colour for a GTI  :cool: :wink:

Everything is staying as it is, the theme of the car is OEM+  and thats how its staying  :cool:

Shaun, wanted to but

A) wanted to make sure the engine worked right before i started ripping bits off like the timing kit  (incase i had to return the engine for whatever reason etc)

B) wanted the timing belt fitted by a pro so i know its timed up correctly and also so i have the relevant paperwork to back this up  :cool:

Stands me at alot of cash this now so i need to treat it like a new born  :grin:
