True, true.

Happy days! I think the sender is on my GTi, it did that on the way home, didn't think I was gonna make it then shot up to half a tank which was right! I'm gonna try a sender in it.

I know it's been mentioned but what did you use to sort your bay first time round? Mines as minging as yours was, want it looking fresh.

to sort the bay and engine first time round i used same method i used on this engine

i used a load of cans of Gunk spray, and WD40.. loads of rags and kitchen roll

if you want to polish bits up i used wire brush then wet and dry, then autosol (polishing takes some right looking after

if you wanna spray bits then use high temp paint and hammerite

What was up with the clocks then?

look in electrical section of Club GTI russ, iv just put a post up, you may be able to help me.

iv got no speedo, i need to check the wires to the gearbox, but iv included the colours in the thread over on CGTI, also i think the sender is iffy for the fuel, its working but now and again it raises or drops ?  what do you think?

everything else is working, just no MPG readings etc on the maf and no speedo, plus my miles are not going up

Have you earthed the sender on the tank out, if the gauge rises then it is your problem.

Pull the plug off the sender and earth it against metal, if the wiring is correct the gauge should rocket up.

Cheers mate. Might polish the alternator. Probably paint the rocker cover, not pink though, doesn't suit the shape of it.

I'll grab some Gunk.

I could never ground out my gauge, I just saw three wires but I'm sure two were for the pump and one the sender, grounding any out didn't do anything. Although that could be on a seperate plug, I never bothered, I just stuck some fuel in and the gauge worked.
