DAB antenna installation
« on: 09 April 2022, 05:57 »
Ordered a new DAB antenna for Alpine DEH-7800DAB radio. Any advice on where to place it, seems front window passenger side is recommended.

What kind of car do you have. I used a Polo dab aerial to fit to my mk5 golf. Couldn't get any luck with the stick on type

i had it on the front and a couple of different type and couldn't get it too work correctly. It depends on your location, im in Scotland , but possibly get away with it in London for example

If you have a mk5 or 6 it might be worth considering an oem dab/fm amplifier to replace the fm one. Need to run an extra cable from it to the dab connector on the radio though.
Mk6 GTI Carbon Grey, 2010 Bluetooth and voice fitted, a few VCDS mods still a comfortable family car. Red Scirocco 2011 twin charger stage 1 - enjoyable drive now gone.  White 2016 Polo GTI (roller skate on steroids) replaced with an Indium Grey 2019 7.5 GTI PP.

Ah interesting. I saw these when dealing with the heated rear window not working(broken wires where the cables come thro' from the main body of the car). Not a nice job to do.
Do feedback how you get on.

Just to give you some feedback as requested, The hardest part was in general, removing the boot trim.
Once that was removed, the switch over of the unit was straight forward.

Once I followed the instructions and installed everything at the Radio end, it used all the exisiting OEM wiring, everything worked as it should.

Very happy with the kit.
