In my Mk5 I had a Nextbase 512g up behind the rear view mirror, brilliant bit of kit btw.
When I collected my new Mk7 I asked the dealer if they would hard wire the camera in for me
Pause................oh, err, umm, "will get back to you".............
Yes, you all probably know the answer, a complete lack of one! (Damnably annoying isnt it
)
So its down to me to do the job myself.
A problem or a challenge?
BUT wait, if I touch anything it would surely invalidate my warrantee......wouldn't it? (Do not allow ANY wriggle room if it means the other party being releived of any money).
Not touching any of the wiring at all is the only/correct thing to do.
So what is the sulution?
Free wiring it is the only option if I want the camera operational.
However the two power scources are the central ciggy lighter socket near my left elbow (Warum jnstall es dort) and the USB in the iPhone tray.
Next question; what is the output Watts and Amps of the USB socket in the iPhone tray???
Answer; 5W & 1.5-2Amps (nominal) same as the Nextbase 512
Now know all USB outlets are the same!
The supplied Nextbase cable is ciggy power plug to mini USB which is now usless and redundant!
Cable required is a normal USB to a Mini
type BUSB which cost me £4 online.
I can fit it myself, have my camera full operational, and stay within the warrantee reguirments, and when the warentee expires I can have it hardwired by a qualified Auto Electrician.
Challenge accepted, problem solved.
