Footrest cover fitting

Replaced the plastic oem footrest cover with one that matches in with the pedals.

Easy job – took 20 mins.  Need a T20 Torx bit and a sharp knife/blade.  Quick installation guide below:

OEM footrest cover – locate Torx screw



 
Undo Torx screw – T20 screw Torx bit required.



Once unscrewed and tore screw set aside, remove the oem footrest by pushing it up towards the bulkhead, tilting it at the same time.  Note the square holes into which the locating lugs on the new footrest cover slot into.



OEM locating lugs have a marginally wider slot than aftermarket cover so a little of the plastic may need shaving off with a sharp knife.

Replacement footrest slots – narrower – may need a little slicing off


Fit new footrest cover – angle it into place and slide it from the top pushing down and to the left at the same time.  Give it a moderate tap from the top and it will slot into place.  Screw Torx screw back into position.  The screw hole on the new footrest is much shallower than on the oem one.



Voila!

That looks brilliant. Can't understand why VW don't fit this as standard (well, I can as it's an easy area where they can save money, but still...). Such a simple upgrade and it's one of those little finishing touches that can make such a big difference.

How long did delivery take from that site?

Mmm Might have to get one of these, my foot keeps slipping off the OEM one.  Is it any 'grippier' than stock?  I assume yes because my previous car had a footrest that matched the pedals.

Not sure about it being grippier but it does feel more solid (probably isn't though) and I seem to use it more than I did the original rest. But it really improves the look of the interior and I don't regret fitting mine so go for it

I just replaced mine, the instructions were useful.  Removing the old footrest was hard after the screw was out - I sat in the driver's seat and pushed / kicked it upwards with my left foot, which pushed it out of its grips and made it easy to release.

The slots on the new one definitely need widening slightly as it was too tight to engage.

I ordered mine from the superskoda site above, it was about £27 with an automatic discount, it arrived in 4 days and is excellent quality.

Bought the part from Czech Republic and then it took 15 mins to take the OE footrest out and fit the new one. Nice little mod that tidies the footwell look up a treat.

Hi.  Thanks for the heads up. I used Hog-Hedge’s link above and ordered the foot rest from the SuperSkoda Site, Czech Republic, on their Golf 7 section. It’s advertised for RHD manuals  Arrived within four days but be aware that this is the  part made in China, it’s just quicker delivery! If you can wait longer it is cheaper from Ali Express or eBay. It came with an invoice from the Czech Republic but the box it was in had Chinese writing on it suggesting that’s where it hailed from originally. I slightly shortened the two lugs with a dremel and its now fitted. My car’s a DSG and it fitted fine although slightly narrower than the VW original. It took about 15 minutes and now looks much better. See Booth11s photos for fitting guide and final appearance. 😀
