Right, for the time being anyway I've got these for sale. What can I say, they'll take the forward backward slack out of your gearchange - basically the only slack you'll have is what's in your gearbox. Anyway I've a little webpage made up with a paypal button, I've these bushes here on the desk in front of me so they'll be sent the same day I get the payment. Any queries etc. ask away.
Here's the website: http://www.iol.ie/~locoblade/bushes.html (http://www.iol.ie/~locoblade/bushes.html)
-
dead link :(
-
Working now :) might have one of those after Christmas :)
-
not for me it isn't! How much are they as i need one?
-
web page / link to paypal say's £7.
-
hmm dont seem to get anywhere when i click it , i can find the homepage but not the bushes link :(
-
I just changed the link to one that works - you usually only get 2 mins to change posts
-
added a linky to my linkage FAQ
-
Thanks very much!
-
your sig looks like a hulahoops advert ;D
-
I've got a linkage refurb kit and I mite get this and fit the lot together, looks worthwhile :)
-
Sour cream and onion flavour! I wouldn't advise putting them in your mouth though :D
I would defintely call it worthwhile, actually it's been hard for me not to rave on about these things, it's the way the car should have come from VW! I need people to buy them and rave about them so I don't look bad!
-
Ok the christmas postage surge should be finishing up soon so I'm gonna start pushing these again! I still have nearly all of them left
-
Are these still going as I think I need to make a purchase !!!
What kinda postage we talking too ??
-
Yep, I have a load in stock and postage is included in the price - but you know all that cause you've just bought one
-
Anyone considering one of these puppies should definately raid the copper jar and part with £7 - worked a treat and really was as easy to fit as described  I forgot what a nice short shift the Mk2 actually had !!!
Nice Work Mark ;)
-
Glad you're happy with it
-
i have just placed an order for one of your magic devices! i'm hoping it will solve my wildly swinging gear stick.
-
i replaced the job lot around august last year i bought and fitted a full linkage bush kit from egay for around £20 and a relay shift assy from the main steelers @ £52 quid. wish i new about these bushes then.
get one, for £7 it will save you a lot of wedge.
-
i have just placed an order for one of your magic devices! i'm hoping it will solve my wildly swinging gear stick.
Got your payment and it's just about in the post.
Jase that's basically the reason I had the things made - got the bush kit from GSF saw this bush and wondered why there wasn't a replacement. Found out that short of importing from the states you had to buy the whole assy just like you said.
-
have also used this on my motor, with a gear repair kit, its all nice and tight now, well worth the money
-
Just placed an order.
Got a gear linkage repair kit as well
1st gear is getting harder and harder lol
-
still wondering if this will fit the 1.3 linkage, cause it's a ball not the hula hoopy bit on the smaller engines, looky:
but the thign is, te play in mien is in the box, the shift finger below the speedo cable, is where the wobbles coming from
-
sorry dude its totally different!
-
so where can we buy the the ball thing?
-
If that ball slips onto a little sleeve then one of my bushes might possibly work? If you want to try out one of my bushes I'd be happy to refund you the £7 if/when you send it back to me. I'd be willing to do that for anyone on here as a matter of fact
However, in the time I've been here I've never known rubjonny to be wrong!
-
got my bush in very quick time, fitting was a piece of piss and now gears are spot on.
you gotta love a nice tight bush for £7
cheers m8
-
anytihng with a 1.4 engine has them, such as the mk3 1.4s, theyve got the same, and a p reg ibiza in ym scrappy has the same in v good nicker.. tempted to try a swap, afaik theres jut a single screw on the underside and the shift finger can be swapped with he ball intact etc
-
the ball is a solid lump o rubber, so to make the relay shaft fit, you would need to chop it out to just the right width. But even then the shaft bush may not be the right size, and EVEN THEN it wouln't work because the 1.3 ball needs to be round cos it pivots from side to side, and the relay bush you have is square
-
just ordered a nice tight bush , cant wait to put it on :)
-
Well worth the £7.00, i ended up paying £35.00 + vat from my local Vw dealer as he wouldn't sell the polypro bush seperate, again made some difference to my gear change but ripped off at £35.00, you should also start selling the Vw alignment tool as a package as this is a god send when resetting your linkage.
-
I have a cad drawing of the tool tucked away safely if anyone needs it ;)
-
you should also start selling the Vw alignment tool as a package as this is a god send when resetting your linkage.
Maybe I should. Is there any reason why 2 or 3mm plate would be too light? I can't see any reason but all the ones I've seen seem to be heavier. Rubjonny If you send that CAD drawing on I could look into it!
By the way crevice I got your payment and I'll post that out today.
-
2/3mm should be plenty strong enough, but it needs to be chunky enough so it wont wobble about when fitted to the gearstick I guess?
-
Well I got your email so I'll have a chance to try out a few in different thickness and see what works.
-
By the way crevice I got your payment and I'll post that out today.
thank you!
-
Yeah, I'll be interested in a gear alighnment tool and a relay shaft bush as a kit.
Post the price when youv'e finished investigating :)
-
just got mine, went to fit it but its huge compared to the metal rod
and bigger than the old orange ball.
Is there something stuck in the old ball that i need to switch over?
-
Yeah there should be a little white insert between the metal rod and the new bush - you can see a pic of it on the page with the installation directions. The fact that it's bigger than the orange ball is good too - tht's the amount of slack that's being taken out of your gearlever!
-
I meant the inside is bigger  i can almost fit my thumb in!
i'll have a closer look when i get back. The ball i have now doesnt seem to have
that white part on it? just the orange with a black? insert that didn't come out last night!
-
Weird, post up a pic and we might be able to help, otherwise send it back an I'll refund your money - what car is it in case other people might face the same problem?
-
Doesn't sound right whatever it is, orange with a black bit???
-
Turns out the "black bit" was the insert that was originally white!
The orange was the rubber ball that was almost brand new!
A quick attack with a knife and the plastic bit was free.
a bit of a hammer and the plastic was snug inside the bush.
Feels unbelievably tight and so much better, than what appears to be an almost new bush
Thanks
-
Woohoo! Glad you got it sorted.
Anyway that's me out of stock for the time being (well I have 1 left), but I'm making some more which should be ready sometime next week. Looks like I'll be able to get some of those gear alignment tools done too
-
have you got any more made up yet mate? im very interested in one of these for my valver.
-
Back in stock!
-
Im after these bits too! Do you have a price for the tool and a relay bush?? Ta
-
Hi mk2Mark looked at one of these before chrimbo in fact 1st post after yours
I have just got round to buying one :D :D Have you any of the gearshift alignment tools done yet? would be loads easier to put my gearbox back in right then :D
-
Hmm I all but forgot about the alignment tools - I'm right in the middle of exams so you'll have to excuse me! Will get onto it pronto though.
-
No worries I am at the stage in my sig so it'll be a few weeks before I can fit it anyway!! I can try a prototype if that makes life easier? :)
-
ha!
-
Mine arrived yesterday, fitted it today - I can't believe how easy it was to fit
The part it replaced was almost new but this is significantly better.
Cheers buddy!
-
great! my gearbox is better than stirring soup. all i need now is the gsf bushes to finish it off.
fantastic guide too
-
Really appreciate the kind comments lads, like I've said I'm not making a whole lot on these so it makes it much more worthwhile to hear people are happy
-
well these seem to be popular enough so i'll make this a sticky and if people carry on ordering via pm it'll keep things in order.
good work mark!
-
Ok these are back in stock (finally) sorry about the delay.
-
Nice one Mark, a very simple but effective way of curing "dick in bowler hat syndrome" that my Golf suffered!
Fitted with a replacement bush kit off e-Bay and new rods, it has made an amazing difference.
I thoroughly recommend this part to everyone suffering slackness!
Will we be seeing you on the next Dragon's Den??
-
Pay for the ferry and I'm there!
-
Great product-thanks very much! I finally got around to fitting it after not having the time (like I couldn't find the 5 mins it took to fit!) then forgetting about it. Very easy to fit and has made a BIG difference-no more 'is this 4th or 2nd?' when changing down from 5th. Everyone needs one of these!
Nice work mate.
-
Thanks very much! Just for the record I'm not paying these people
-
fitted mine at the weekend.I'm chuffed to f**k with it
-
Have you any plans to make the 'top hat' bushes that the relay shaft turns in. The ball replacement fitted a treat but I's really like those 'top hats' in a similar material, they'll go nicely with my home made short shift
Barkstar :nerd:
-
you can get those bushes from the missinglinkz site :)
-
Hmm, I'd love to do more stuff like that, there's another bush in particular closer to the gearstick, but I can't see it being worthwhile (apart from the kind feedback of course - I love you guys :laugh:). GSF sell those top hats as part of their kit so you're not completely stuck - unlike the relay shaft bushes. And as has been said if you're can get the upgraded ones from the states if you're serious.
-
I once bought the kit for a Mk1 from GSF - and three month later bought a proper one from VW. So we won't be going there. Fair enough that it's not worth you doing them Mark. I quite like the look of the replacement for the orange selector shaft bush - the one in the riveted plate from Missinglinkz as well. I think if you're going to do a job you may as well do it all properly.
Barkstar :nerd:
-
I agree. That riveted in orange one is the one I'm on about too  I'm genuinely tempted but they wouldn't be cheap enough and I can't see there being enough interest
-
I didnt bother with one of them from missing linkz, I just used the GSF one. Not so hard to swap and the GSF ones seem to take the play out nicely!
Next on my list is the one at the other end in the shifter box, I'm not looking forward to that one
-
Yeah the gsf one has the advantage that you can squeeze it in without taking out the rivets!
-
you still got some of these fella?
-
Yep, got a good few in stock
-
Yep, got a good few in stock
Luvley jubbly..just put an order in bud
-
Got it, it's on its way
-
spot on mate..thank you
thought there was some play but you dont realise till you fit the bush how much better it should be..thanks again bud
-
Yep, since mine now appears to have totally disintegrated I thought I'd better order one of these...
-
Got it, it's on its way
ill be ordering one in the next few days mate, my 209,000mile 8v gtis gearchange has got a bit slack! i need one of these, does the gsf kit come with all the other parts needed do you know??
-
Sure does.
-
I definately need one of these! Just put an order in - let me know if you get it. Cheers
-
Yep, it's on its way.
-
Cheers. look forward to it
-

-

-

-
Noticed that, hope you don't mind the little wait.
-
Just got home and found my bush waiting for me so i'm waiting for my engine to cool down before i try and fit it!
-
looks like it's been a while, but :- Still in stock?
Desperatley need one of those beauties.
-
Yep, still in stock, I'll be sure to let people know otherwise.
-
One for me please :)
Paypaled it up.
-
One for me too just paid
-
The best £7 I've ever spent on a car.
As the web page said - it literally did take under a minute to fit (and that's for me with no mechanical ability what-so-ever), and the gear change is now spot on.......
Good work chap.... highly highly recommended.
-
Appreciate it muchly!
-
Fitted mine today made a big difference!! N1
-
Just payed for mine marky. in need of some tightness

Grand job, it's in the post.

-
Hmmm suppose it should be with you by now, they usually take around a week in the post. If it's not there tomorrow or the next day let me know and I'll send another one out.
-

-
Just sent payment....
Hopefully sort out some of the sloppyness
-
That's gone out to you, I'm running very low on stock though so I can't take more orders for a day or 2, but I'll let everyone know when I've more!
-
Aaaaannnddd I'm in stock again, let the orders flow! What better way to show a significant other you care this christmas than with a new upgraded relay shaft bush?
Disclaimer: Above significant other refers to the 4 wheeled variety and I accept no liability for relay shaft bush incurred relationship setbacks.
-
Just fitted mine with a gsf bush kit and a weighted shift rod, WOW what a difference its got rid of nearly all the play and feels like a new car.
If you haven't done this mod go and do it, a couple of hours and a few pounds is well worth it.
-
Hi guys,
You'll have to excuse my ignorance - i only collected my first MK2 GTI 8v on thursday so my mechanical knowledge of this car is pretty much zip.
I'm keen to try and improve the gearchange of my new toy, but i've read through this thread and can't work out whether i need to buy just this bush or this one plus the 'bush kit' from GSF? And if i'm doing that much, am I worth getting the weighted shift rod too or are they not up to much?
Tar muchly
Scott
-
Hi Scott,
You don't need either to install the other, the GSF kit contains a lot of bits that wear down over time, but it doesn't contain the relay shaft ball - if you want one of those you have to buy the whole relay shaft assembly off VW (expensive), so I started making them as an alternative. So basically you can install one or the other if you want, but I strongly reccommend both!
A weighted shift rod is a different story, they only change the "weight" of the gear change, and do nothing for taking any sloppiness away. It's basically a matter of preference rather than an improvement, most people seem to prefer a heavier gearchange, personally I don't - I'd spend the money on making up a short shifter.
-
Thanks Mark. I'll get an order put through this weekend for both bits, once i've checked to see if the new car needs anything else from GSF.
-
Grand job, I've a heap in stock!
-
Put the order through via ebay - powrsella.
Thanks again for your help. And happy xmas.
-
Hi Mark,
I have just put an order through from your paypal site!
Any ideas on delivery dates?
I have recently purchased the redline mtl gearbox oil and am getting the gsf brush kit this weekend!
Hope to have the whole setup done at some stage next week!
Cheers!
G
-
Hi,
Got that and it's on its way. Usually takes 5 working days to arrive, christmas has really screwed that around a bit but it should be more or less sorted by now.
I am selling them on ebay, but I'd prefer if people bought off the website instead - paypal is expensive enough without giving them money through ebay too :undecided: They're 50p cheaper if you do
-
Just sent payment....
Hopefully sort out some of the sloppyness
Forgot to say thanks for a great service. Arrived in a couple of days.
Fitted in minutes. Removed some of the play in the linkage, but now fitted new bush kit as well for the lateral play which was causing problems.
Gear change massively improved now - New relay bush, new bushes, redline MTL, and a homemade weighted shift rod (an offcut of roofing lead rolled round to 1" dia and jubilee clipped on )
Thanks again
-
Thanks for that
-
Hi Mark,
I recieved the bush today!
I followed your instructions the old bush would not come off! After 10 mins and cut fingers it finally came off!
Fitted the new bush in and it has definitely got rid of alot of play in the gears!
Next step is the gsf repair kit and gearbox oil change!
Many thanks for a prompt and proffesional service, the product definitely works!
Thanks,
G
-
Yep, just to add to the already glowing praise, I received my tight bush promptly, and fitting was a piece of wee - even for a complete muppet like me. It's improved the gearbox feel so much that i decided didn't need to fit the GSF kit. Best £7 i've ever spent...
...apart from that time in Amsterdam
-
Lol! Would still advise the GSF kit though, not as easy to fit and not as big a difference but still an improvement
-
hi mark, just ordered one of these under the email playboy5384, not sure my name was on the address. Paul Townsend
-
Got it, I'll have that of in the morning
-
will i have to adjust linkage after fitting? with the special tool? Paul
-
Nope, it's just a straight swap out - swap in.
-
any idea when this is going to arrive chap? Paul
-
Takes 5 working days normally.
-
wow that was quick! cheers chap
-
Hi Mark, order just placed via your website. Email is nickrice@bigbluefish......
Looking forward to an easier gear change !!
-
Will be on its way first thing tomorrow.
Mark
-
Hi Mark, just to let you know my bush arrived this morning along with the fitting guide, thx very much, i'll do it over the weekend as i'm doing a few bits anyway
James
-
Hi Mark, item arrived this morning, excellent speedy service !!
10 mins to fit, and oh my god !!
Went for a quick drive, gear change is alot more positive, and easier to engage. VERY VERY impressed.
Cheers fella.
Ricey.
-
Placed an order on your site. I have the GSF kit and a replacement gear stick ball, so with this bush I have the full refurb kit.
Great idea as I was just looking for a full relay arm.
-
Are you going to Dubfreeze with these?
-
Hi,
Afraid I won't be, can't afford the ferry from Ireland
Mark
-
Ah, fair enough, didn't see you lived over there
-
Just ordered myself one!
-
Got that, will be off to you tomorrow.
-
i must buy these
-
i bought a bush a while ago but need a ball for my new 8v do u have any?
-
Yep loads in stock but my supply has dried up  so unless I find another you may not be able to get these any more
-
Have just fitted the bush and have to say am well impressed after taking her for a spin.
Gear changes are a lot more positive, makes the car even more fun to drive.
Am currently experiencing ninja levels of happiness.
Was a bit dubious about doing it as this is the first time i've really done anything under bonnet, good clear instructions, mega chuffed.
GOOD WORK BUSHMEISTER!!!
-
Merci beaucoup mon ami!
Means thanks! Just to let people know I am trying to find a supplier, so hopefully the service will continue. Meantime I've LOADS in stock, and I'll be sure to let everyone know should that change.
-
Still got these? Where exactly does it go?
-
All gone, sorry. My supplier dried up, but I am looking elsewhere.
-
any news on a supplier yet?
-
I'm an engineer so if someone has all the dimensions and what material is suitable I should be able to knock some up.
-
let me know if you get anymore. sounds interesting and i would like to purchase  cheers
