Just finished doin them tonite. Put my sidelights into my big bumper indicators. Think it makes the front end look meaner at nite. Have pic soon. Just waiting for it to be accepted
-
where have you put the indicators??
-
Heres the pic http://pic7.picturetrail.com/VOL194/2134172/4150855/51537521.jpg
Indicators are in the same unit just with orange bulbs.
-
I think SWG sell the indicators with the sidelight holes in them? dunno how well the orange can be seen at night though ???
-
I put my hazards on before and had a look and all you can see is orange, then they just go white again. R&A do them aswel, thats where i got the idea from.
-
Nice, How much?
Out of interest Low, Got any more pics of your car? id be interested in seeing it
-
My cars in a bit of a state at the moment cos im in the middle of doing the rear arches and sorting out some rust and the big bumpers still need spraying. Ill take some later on anyway. Think the lights are about ?40. Or you could make your own student style like me :P
-
it wouldn't be too hard to wire up a relay either to make the sidelight turn off when the indicator light came on to ensure it was 'amber' ;D </geek>
-
But surely that would be illegal if you had flashing sidelights ???. My mates got the R&A ones in his golf and it sailed through its MOT.
-
mates got some crystal ones........ looks like a modern bus!
trans am or something! ;D
they do look different!
as long as they flash there proper colours then it will pass the mot....
-
So how exactly did you do it? I cant see how you wired it so the indicators switched the sidelights off?
-
Took my bigbumper holders and cracked the orange plastic from inside them and removed it. Then drilled a hole in the back of them. Got a spare pair of sidelight bulb holders from the scrappy and managed to make a bracket to hold it in place. I then terminal blocked the normal sidelight wires and added the extra sidelights. This means i run them both on the normal circuit. I then replaced the normal indicator bulbs with orange ones so they still shine orange. Because the sidelight bulbs are only 5w and the indicator bulbs are 21w when the indicator shines you cant see the sidelight bulb at all as it is well drown out.

I see... So when your indicating, the indicator will flash orange, but when off it will be white? Thus, when indicating it will appear to be flashing white then orange, just the orange is much brighter? What colour are your lenses, clear, orange or smoked? I'm thinking of putting the sidelights into the spots at the moment....
-
just got clear lenses, you could put them in all three, because the sidelight fune is 10A and the bulbs are only 5W the circuit would handle it easily

Beetles have indicators in the headlamps, so I can't see a problem with MOT's.
